Air conditioning? Whassat???? Try working in a so-called 'temporary classroom;' freezing in winter and stifling at this time of year.

Bosses might not care about the temperatures in offices sufficiently, but people appear to care even less about the conditions kids have to put up with.

    "Ah but it's character-building." ;)

To be honest, when they gave fans to those in the hutted classrooms, I thought it made very little difference. They just seemed to move the same stale air around. Best thing they did, long term, was to grow trees around the huts.

My school had some portacabin class rooms too, tbh, i thought the summer worse than the winter, ut in summer some of the more sensible teachers had us decamp to 'under the trees' .

Sorry. No idea about broadband, TV by wire and all that stuff. :o

We use satellite for TV and the phone wiring in this place is so much like the rest of it, I just assume that the lousy speed is down to weirdness + bodging. As we'll be pulling it all apart soon, I just don't worry.

PN send your rain this way please. Our fields aren't growing fast enough, except the bits where the septic tank outflows are. :(

A friend has just hatched a chicken which has webbed feet. If we were living in olden times, that would be an omen....As we aren't, all she gets is "If it walks like a duck...." :rotfl:

I was in one too for a few years, but then I was promoted. In those days it was still possible to ameliorate the worst effects of winter by doing one's own programming of the gas fire, so that it came on at 4am, not when the caretaker arrived. ;)

My hut was the lucky one which was already under the trees in the Nature Area. :D

It is poor. Incidentally, he could work from home but he is not for carious reasons. But at his own office air conditionng has also beoken. How different employers have dealt with it is really nteresting. Where dh is now they were told to work from home if they could, wear shorts /t shirts etc if they could not (but not flipflops or sandals, apparantly toes are where they draw the line) dh bought a fan and the office have refunded him. At his real office they got an email telling them the air con was kaput. And a fullstop at the end, no suggested acceptable measures.

Interesting. In an overhot office, I would feel much more comfortable and able to concentrate in long trousers but well ventilated feet than in shorts and closed shoes. Having to wear closed shoes at this time of year is the part of different dress code that makes me feel most sorry for the men. I'm the same in winter or summer - if my torso and feet are warm/cool enough, my legs can generally cope with whatever the temperature happens to be.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

When I get over hot, I play the shower hose over me for a few minutes...and as the shower is broken and we have to use the slide onto the taps sort, I just turn the cold tap on.

Mind you, it has to be seriously hot for me to get overheated, I am naturally quite a cold person although my current pain killers appear to have increased my body temperature...either that or I am going through menopause!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

My list would contain: Find the mouse I bought for £5 from Asda 2 months ago .... because I need it to be able to get the PC fired up to use to scan in some stuff I want to scan in ... While I could use the PC without any mouse at all, it'd be a right pain in the butt and some things aren't possible without one.

My old mac had several operatiing systems which let me play (sorry, run :p) older software. Thought my USB mouse was better than the original one untl I unthinkingly loaded an old system that didn't recognise USBs. Took me ages to find a mouse old enough to let me log off and relaod a proper system!

I know there are some nice people with wonderful technical understanding who might be able to help me.

We have internet through plus net.

It is scratchy and patchy and slow. This has been fine for just me but when parent moves in (heavy user of things like iplayer) and dh is working from home in the summer we need something smoother and faster.

We do not have cable, though otherwise might consider ine with phone and tv, though that initself would cause 'issues' as to which tv got the benefit of that.

I just don't know where to start when cheapest not the only consideration! Any ideas?
We've had cable for yonks. Didn't realise how fast it was till I visited parents and saw how slow their connecgtion was ( I believe it was talktalk).
Quite surprised because with cable there were occasional unexplained internet blackouts, but when it works it's really fast. Everyone in the house has computers on most of the time, and we all use it like a telly.

Should have just unplugged it - and ignored the error message when it fired up again as you know it didn't really close down unexpectedly.

Looking for a posh phone... have the opportunity to buy a HTC Widfire (no other model details provided), they say need to be connected to Mr T mobile and it would need a SIM card. £45 boxed etc.

    Questions:
1] Is that a good price?
    2] Could I use a SIM card I already have (that's not a Mr T)?

I want a phone to: make/receive calls/texts, surf t'Internet .... and some apps like GPS, barcode scanning to check for bargains, easily take good photos and get them online quickly.
