Obviously the course choice is important - and 101 other considerations.
In terms of status of institution and of the full university experience of living in a town geared up to student life, I wouldn't have put those two in the same league. Nottingham would be far better. I am very surprised that the grade offers are anywhere near each other.
For the course he wants to do, the grades required are actually pretty similar. He hasn't applied as yet as he still has another year to go before he will be leaving 6th form (thanks to pressing the reboot button), so it could all change again by the time he comes to apply, he could even decide he doesn't want to go to University.
You just never know with James.
We are also currently planning middle son's progression as he is in year 10, at his last statement review, it was suggested it may be better for him to take a different route into further education because of his musical talent which would mean him leaving his current high school and going to a specialist centre the other side of Ipswich....not quite sure how he or I would handle that as just the transport element of it would be a barrier. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Things that go on my list sometimes include such basics as 'brush teeth'm because i might forget, and also for the low hanging fruit thing. Its incredibly motivational.
We notice anyway we get loads more done with a list than without.
I used to be a walking calendar, I would remember all appointments, meetings etc but when I had my breakdown, my brain turned to cheese and has never returned fully to the old memory capacity...it's like someone has removed a 250gb hard drive and replaced it with a 50gb one.
My forgetting appointments now is a sign my mood is on a downward slope or that I am letting myself get over stressed. We made it! Surely Friday would be the day for that?
Wednesdays tend to be my tidying up ods and sods day. Which is why its the day I gravitate here so much. Do a task, visit NPT, do another, visit the NPT. I have finished my AR, which was a 5 minute task this year, but occasionally they stump you by adding a question. I'm now about half way through the expenses and my Excel spreadsheet and have stopped for lunch.
Just watching Ben Fogle on Loose Women. He's planning to swim the Atlantic! Kudos to him. He comes across as a really nice guy and I loved his book The Tea Time Islands. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Wow, swimming the Atlantic, don't some people do amazing things.
Does anyone have any tips for getting cool. It is so hot and humid and I just can't get comfortable. Been outside, came back in, switched fan on but it was too blowy....0 -

as a fellow hater of heat here are my (extremely helpful) tips:
1) a bag of frozen peas is your friend and makes a wonderful cushion / pillow. you can reuse as well...
2) failing frozen peas, eat ice cubes. if you can bring yourself to swallow them whole, all the better. failing that drink as much very cold water as possible. if you can drink no more, put your feet into a bowl of iced water.
3) the fewer clothes, the better. my favoured hot weather attire is a pair of pants.
4) if you need to go to work in a suit, do not be tempted to leave the jacket at home, especially if you are wearing a blue shirt.0 -
Thanks so much for the extremely helpful tips !!
I have some reservations about swallowing the ice cube whole, but if you're sure....
It does sound a little bit like one of those cures for hiccups, but I'll give it a go. The frozen peas is a good idea and we always have one in the freezer for emergencies so will try that too. Hope I don't get too cold and have to come back for tips on how to warm up.0 -
Keep your wrists nesk and face dampened with water, espcielly good if there is a fan.
Keep hydrated, it does help if nt keep you cool, then keep you fighting the heat.
If you are really desperate there is always rubbing alcohol.0 -

Open front, back door and windows to create a breeze through your house. (Lydia will explain how and why it all works)
Jump in the car, whack the aircon on full blast and take a drive round the block. Repeat until cool.
Go for a cool shower...0 -

Where dh is the air con has failed. There is a walkin chiller sort of kitchen so he has set up camp in there. He also keeps having showers at work.0 -

i regularly swallow ice cubes when it's hot, and it's never done me any harm (i don't think i can blame my personality disorders on it anyway). if one gets stuck in your throat then you can always just have a cup of tea.0
