My ice cubes are quite big, I'm a bit scared of trying to swallow them whole. Maybe as you say, a cup of tea will melt it if it gets stuck.
Thanks for all the ideas, I am a bit cooler now but just realised I have to iron a couple of things and even the thought of that is making me hot again. I really do have to do it, can't get away with not ironing cos they are linen.
I don't have any aircon in my car but could drive with my head out of the window I suppose.
The plan is 1) iron, 2)shower 3)swallow ice cube
Hope it works, thanks for your help everyone.0 -
No list, but did loads in the end... well, not loads....
Took a bunch of stuff up to storage
Contacted two house clearances
Picked up some packing materials from a supermarket
Nuked a frozen kebab
Negotiated/arranged a household appliance to my sibling's
Took one house clearance guy round the estate showing him our heirlooms (final verdict is: Skip most of this lot, nothing of any value, not worth me taking the lot to get hold of the 1-2 items worth £20 or so ....)
Communicated project progress, updates and facts to siblings
That's what I'd have done today if I'd have made a list .... and I did it without a list. But now I've done it, if I had a list I'd find more to do .... but without a list I feel I have License to Lounge.0 -
I've had a couple of bad bouts of heatstroke that I've passed out from. The instant cure all for feeling grotty is to get a big towel, sling it in cool but not freezing water, wring it out a bit so that it won't drip everywhere but not so its nearly dry and slam it round your head. You cool down and feel better in no time. Helps avoid the mega-headache too. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? DW was attacked by Ozzie when she removed the two hens today. "He does that again & he's pie!" was all I got, so it probably wasn't too serious.0 -
It's an outrage when you have to work in a stifling office, without any fans or cooling at all and you just want to die ... and the bosses do nothing about it. There's no upper temperature limit for offices in the UK.
Today, here, it drizzled.... then was overcast, then a bit sunny, now it's gone overcast and a bit muggy.0 -

Fairly inevitable this time of yearthat they push the boundaries. I have a couple of nasty scars from an argument and some ones spurs so if he pushes too hard i recommend boots. Also, just threatening with, not beating with, something like a yard broom can be useful. Remaining 'bigger, bolder and badder' when the lood is in their legs is key imo.0 -

It is poor. Incidentally, he could work from home but he is not for carious reasons. But at his own office air conditionng has also beoken. How different employers have dealt with it is really nteresting. Where dh is now they were told to work from home if they could, wear shorts /t shirts etc if they could not (but not flipflops or sandals, apparantly toes are where they draw the line) dh bought a fan and the office have refunded him. At his real office they got an email telling them the air con was kaput. And a fullstop at the end, no suggested acceptable measures.0 -

It's a crazy boss that lets that happen. It is obvious that if you have people who are too hot, then productivity goes down. I know when I get really hot my productivity goes down by about a third to a half as I tend to be someone who moves around quite quickly. If it gets hot I just saunter around and I'm sure I'm not unusual. They could repay that lost hours productivity for a lot of people just by buying a cheap fan, not doing so is pointless and costs more, not just in the long term either, but in the space of a day even. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I know there are some nice people with wonderful technical understanding who might be able to help me.
We have internet through plus net.
It is scratchy and patchy and slow. This has been fine for just me but when parent moves in (heavy user of things like iplayer) and dh is working from home in the summer we need something smoother and faster.
We do not have cable, though otherwise might consider ine with phone and tv, though that initself would cause 'issues' as to which tv got the benefit of that.
I just don't know where to start when cheapest not the only consideration! Any ideas?0 -
Air conditioning? Whassat???? Try working in a so-called 'temporary classroom;' freezing in winter and stifling at this time of year.
Bosses might not care about the temperatures in offices sufficiently, but people appear to care even less about the conditions kids have to put up with.
"Ah but it's character-building."
To be honest, when they gave fans to those in the hutted classrooms, I thought it made very little difference. They just seemed to move the same stale air around. Best thing they did, long term, was to grow trees around the huts.0
