You have to offer free education though IMO. Unfortunately you get cr*p parents in all income brackets. You can't have a bad parent denying a child a shot of education and making their own life just by dint of the fact they have a bit more money.

Bad parents don't feed their kids properly, don't bring them up properly, don't wash their clothes and generally look after them... But they aren't just in the underclass.

I also think degrees should be free to kids from families whose parents are on low wages, as well as free in hard subjects where there are skill shortages - providing there is a tie in - such as must stay in industry in the UK or pay costs on a diminishing scale.

    Sigh.

Our sitting room is not too small, but i am remembering why i put the furniture where i did. The walls are really busy, every wall has someting going on, and in awkward places.

It was ok before, but made the room look smaller. Now room looks bigger but to me, uncomfortable layout.

I've got a big living room, but doe to colours (we've got black wallpaper on one wall and dark furniture), it looks smaller than it is.

Saying that, my living room is probably 'average size', as far as things go

My sitting room is not small, but not huge. Its 16 by 16 ish, but its got three doors on different walls a firplace almost the width of one of those walls, and a window on the fourth. The doors most often used are opposite diagonal corners, there is no corridor or hall. in there i have two two seater sofas, a day bed, two airmchairs, a desk, a chair for the desk, a horrid big tv on a sewing machine table, and...one more lamp table. There are very few'incidental' pieces, which doesn't help as it feels a bit ...raw, which is uncomfortable with old and mismatched furniture, as it doesn't look elegantly sparse...just...jumbly. :D

I have moved it again now. A bit better i think. My desk is on a slant in the 'plain' corner, but that looks a bit odd and design lead for my old house, so will try and turn it tomorrow, or when dh next home at the end of the week. Problem with this layout is that there is a great big hole in the carpet on the route through now:rotfl:

The living room here is 17.5'x11.5' - unfortunately it's on the north side of the house so doesn't get the sun and is cold.... so the dining room was always used as the living room 10.5'x11.5'.

The big room was only ever used for Xmas dinner and Xmas morning (presents were there).

Just reserved a book, which is at 4 libraries in the county, to come to my library .... and got hit with an unexpected, unwarned and irreversible 50p charge!

They should have done a pop up and asked OK or not ..... they didn't!

I'm miffed. I'd have not bothered - I only ordered it on a whim, no idea even how long it'll take to arrive (last one I tried that with took months).

The charge here is 75 p i think. I never do that as a result. I borrow reading matter from the shelf six at a time because i know i can return tha within a week, and i d on't search for anything any other way that physically because otherwise i will want i and pay seventy five pence, when can usually buy for tha if wait longenough.

I find the library awkward for anything like that too. Also there is a really lovely woman who works there who is super nice and super helpful?.i like her, but i find she interferes with my browsing, so haven't been for a while because i feel a bit...pressured...by her.:o

I've got mine at the back of the house (South facing), and it's a dream.

Next door have got various dogs, and it lovingly enables me to shout 'gadi dzaghlo iket’ (go away dog) out the door occasionally, without the neighbours knowing what I'm saying :)

Saying that, I'm in my kitchen/dining room atm, as the bar stools are more productive than the sofa.

Back to Geneva in the morning

I think the 5 of us plus 2 17 year old Spanish girls might struggle to all fit in a 1 bed!
