But- if they persist in sending you threatening letters- you COULD sue for harassment. And unlike their rubbish, your claim is legal.

I'm not aware of different laws relating to contract law in NI. Are you?

Of course you could. And your invoice would be about as valid as their PCN, i.e. not really at all.

But, if the PPC believes that their invoice is legally enforceable, then they must also believe that yours is too.

To sue for harassment under the terms of The Protection from Harassment Act 1997, you do need to send a "Letter Before Action" first.

I wasn't expecting replies so soon after posting. This must be a sore issue for a good few people. Why isn;t there a law to stop this?
The UKPC remind of of that guy down south of England somewhere that stood in a car park for years and charged buses to park there, wnd when he weas not there one day, someone phoned up the council, and the council said the car park was free and not chargeable. LOL.

It's not happened to enough MP's to make it an issue!

Actually you are a lot nearer the mark than you thought. For years private parking companies have been giving people "fines" because they broke some imaginary rule in a car park that didn't belong to them.

Now it has been established in Court that- actually- they don't have any right to do that! Just like the man who charged buses to park in a Council car park!
  • Hi,

Yesterday I received a ticket at a retail park in Derry also.

I was slightly over a parking bay white line in an empty car park for 5 minutes (till receipt to confirm)

I was going to write an email appealing the ticket but is it even worth it?

Going off the rest of the thread It seems I should take the risk and ignore them?

There's no risk, but yes, ignore them.

No point appealing as I can give you the answer now - Appeal denied!

Now just ignore them they never do court, they won't effect your credit rating, they won't send the boys around, and you will not get a CCJ or anything.

    Just IGNORE :)
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?
  • Great, thanks for the quick replies! :)
