Thank you for this clarification, murphydog999. Can you quote any references?

This is from the renowned website 'marks daily apple,' link below.
On a PB-style (primal blueprint) low carb diet, with PB-style low training time, the body makes 200 grams of glycogen each day from fats and protein (and then we figure another 100 or so from your veggies and fruits). That gives you enough glycogen to fuel your brain, cruise through an average day and to be able to do a short hard workout – and then do it again the next day. However, when you train long every day (over an hour), your carb needs will increase. The key is discovering EXACTLY how many additional carb grams you need each day to refuel muscles, but also to keep insulin and fat storage to a minimum. Too few and you won’t recover from day-to-day. Too many and you’ll set yourself up for inflammation and unnecessary weight-gain.

There is plenty of evidence for and against certain diets for certain athletes, it's not an exact science as it depends on the sport, the length of participation, and the person.

The sports thing is going off point really, it is the belief that someone who does an active job NEEDS lots of carbs to keep him going. I don't advocate zero, or strict carb intake as it is not sustainable, but carbs that come from sugar, flour based and processed products and alcohol, are def. not NEEDED by the body.

Carbs from natural produce, veg mainly, fruit sparingly, nuts and seeds etc, as we all know are good carb sources.

I don't want to loose the train of this thread and turn it into a low-carb discussion, but the elimination of sugar, anything that is marketed as low-fat or 'no-sugar,' processed foods and oils, and anything that turns straight into glucose/sugar after consumption (high/medium GI) can only benefit you, both in the short and long term.

Hmm have you just started on the journey El? What I am saying is could this be partly the large water weight drop most people get in the first week followed by a reasonable weight loss in the 2nd (oh and well done!)

Murphy Dog, I've bookmarked the marksdailyapple site, it looks most helpful.

Okay, sorry to report no weight loss here. I did have a lot of stressful family stuff going on, and that's when I eat more sweet things....I think next week I'm going to go investigate the whole paleo world, it looks very interesting and might just help me.

L, don't panic. If you have been eating pasta and the like, it will be water weight. I will guarantee it won't be the same next week!

If it is, you will bombarded by people wanting to know your secret!!

He he he thanks murphy dog ... No pasta either sadly ... I'm sure it will sort itself out though so i'm trying not to worry too much about it .. I'm just aware that people that loose weight very fast put it back on aswell ... And( i dont want to put the weight i'm working so hard to get off) back on if that makes any sense

Amazingly I have only put on 3lb in that time, pretty fantastic as whilst we were away I ate takeaways all week!
Fresh mind and attitude now things are sorted, I wish I could get over this emotional eating crud though.
    How is everyone else doing?
