I really have come to the conclusion that - for me at any rate - low-carb is the way to go. Yesterday morning first thing I weighed 68.3 kg. Having worked out that I haven't lost a thing this whole year, in fact I've put on 4 1/4 pounds since December, I thought 'something has really gotta be done'. We had mushrooms poached in a little bit of rapeseed oil plus balsamic vinegar for breakfast, on a slice of wholemeal seeded bread. Lunch: a slice of ham plus salad and an orange. Tea-time I just had 150g of low-fat cottage cheese with pineapple. Later in the evening, one Benecol yogurt. I did my 45 minutes aqua-aerobics. Today's weight is 67.7 kg which is 0.6 kg down on yesterday. That's 1 pound and 5 ounces down on yesterday.

Today we had eggy-onion for breakfast, and I didn't have any bread with it. Eggy-onion is scrambled eggs with a sweet onion, chopped and poached in a little rapeseed oil. I had about 1 1/2 eggs and half the onion. We have some cooked gammon from the butcher and will have that for lunch. I'm going to make a sugar-free orange jelly with chopped apricots.

I sometimes wonder if this would be something good for me too. Low carb is something I know little about though, well apart from the fact that I'd be giving up/reducing the amount of bread pasta I eat (I don't eat too much of it though) Also I've read that it's not that simple and that some veg/fruit are actually high carb  Something I'll have to look into closer.

margaretclare, I hope it works out well for you :T

Melonade, it's along the lines of highly-processed items containing a lot of white flour and white sugar are bad for you. Yes, many fruits and veg do contain carbs. That's the reason Dr Dukan bans any fruit at all in the first 2 phases of the Dukan diet, and veg only on alternate days. However, the carbs in fruits and veg tend to be better for you because they're more natural. Food containing white flour and white sugar is highly-processed and artificial. Have a look at all the food items that are being shouted from the supermarkets' advertising for the present celebration weekend for street parties etc. Not a lot of good for you! I've been invited to a jubilee garden party on Tuesday but I am not going. There'll be lots of lovely food there, but not a thing that I can eat!

Is everyone dreading weigh in tomorrow? Not a good week despite being disgusted with myself. Had people around twice and did the same thing - rack of lamb and instead of doing a bernaise sauce like chateaubriand, use mint. Delicious but the fat!!! I just had a small bit, but still:o!! I am not keen on potatoes, so did not bother with them. Nearly all of my guests weren't wild about potatoes anyway. Loads of veg though!

I hope you don't mind me asking, but has your face now aged, or is your body sagging.
I always think fat people look younger than thin people as they get older, and one of the good things about being fat is that I mostly get mistaken for about 10-15 years younger. (I need to lose about 3-4 stone so my face is obviously well padded!)
I have also seen pictures of people who have lost weight and they seem to have loose skin. Did that happen to you?
Someone told me that there was a guy on daytime TV that had loads to lose and had saggy bits. I don't really watch TV and so haven't seen it.
I have heard the expression "its your figure or your face after you reach 50!)
Oh,decisions decisions! I wish I had just stayed slim in the first place instead of being so greedy.
I read an article in the Sunday Times once and it said being fat says "stupid/poor/greedy/lazy". So I have to choose which one of those, or all of them I am!

Well got on the scales this morning and have lost 1.8lbs :j

Rather pleased with that as starting the gym a month ago seems to have made it harder to loose weight. Good luck everyone!

  • Hello All!

Down a pound today - which is due to luck not effort. CONGRATULATIONS to the losers :-)

Margaretclare -your daily menu sounds so tasty. I am vegggie bordering on vegan and am guilty of "wanting" to cook healthy stuff, not planning it our properly and just grabbing chocolate and biscuit when I am hungry :-(. You plan and cook so well.

I def. need to try something different - if you always do what you've always done etc... SO, ordered 3 Jillian Michael DVD's cheap from the tribe of amazons plus one of her books. :-)

I need a re-boot, I am tired of the weight routine I usually follow and guilty of "coasting "at it.

    BEST WISHES to All!

A 1lb lose for me...and my computer is finally back home. I am pleased with this because we have been to a wedding and a street party and the weather has not been good enough for me to go on my ten mile walks, which have kick started my weight lose again. I have made myself go on the treadmill in the garage, even though my whole body says no...it's boring, too cold and any other excuse I can find and now I feel I have been rewarded.
Well done everyone who has lost and keep it up
Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D
