I don't think it's as simple as that.

I do believe there are situations where the youngster's/teenager's opinions may be worthy of more consideration than the parents. So I could see a situation where votes should carry equal weight.

It all depends on circumstances though and the reasons for going/staying.

I agree that there could be reasons why a teenager's opinion should be given more weight (moving from an excellent school to a very poor one would be the obvious one); I just don't think that moving a few miles away from friends is one of them.:)

I'm just wondering whether your current situation is influencing you. I think you're in a rural part of Scotland which is a totally different situation from a village in East Kent, which probably wouldn't even seem that rural to you. I'm basing this on my experience of living on the Welsh borders compared to "rural" Hampshire. Chalk and cheese!

Who are you talking about? The OP?

    Hello OP,
I live in a village with excellent public transport but late evenings/early mornings/Sundays tend to cause us problems as the last bus is very early, the last train is fairly early and the buses and trains don't tend to match up very well!
I'd also like to point out that if you and your OH enjoy spending social time at home together, living in a village will limit your chances to drink socially as you may well be on late taxi call for your teenagers...

    Without doubt.

The reality of any unwanted move can have lasting repercussions. The OP's situation may not be mine, but I just wanted to offer our experience in the hope she really thinks deeply about everything that is involved before making a decision.

Don't let anyone make you feel otherwise; they cannot possibly tell from one post from a total stranger whether or not you are feeling okay about the past!

Don't forget, everyone who posts here will post with their own experiences and biases, and a fair number of people will post by projecting their own insecurities or issues, unable to believe that others' experiences are not the same as theirs. Posts that don't ask questions like "how are you feeling about that?" but instead post categoric statements like "let's face it, this IS how you feel" are usually not about you at all. ;)
