What if someone sells the tickets in an auction and sets the starting price low though. Is that ok? Afterall they are not asking for a price higher than the face value.

If thats what touts did, then it would be fair. I don't think I've seen that though. It always seems to be inflated prices.

Why is it worse? What's the difference?

I hated that ELMO thread. I think its terrible that people did that. The principle is the same with this, and perhaps I should have put it more eloquently. This is only worse because Touts do it every day, for different artists..where as the ELMO was just 1 thing.

If the seller sets a low auction and it goes high then there is little you can do about it. However, the difference is whether you bought with the intent for this to happen, or if circumstances meant that you had to sell a ticket.

This argument could run and run..because its an ebay thread, and therefore frequented by a lot of pro sellers who delude themselves into thinking its not morally wrong.

The general public would have a different view.

And yes, plenty of companies are just as bad, and out purely for profit. The world is not a good place lol

So why in your opinion, is it different to buy a ticket with intent to make a profit on eBay, to say buying a piece of paper to make a profit on eBay?

The trouble is, it's very easy to proportion blame, especially when the argument is an emotional one, without actually thinking about it.

For example, people often use words like 'genuine' and 'real' fans, and blame the touts for making less tickets available to such fans. Yet I have never seen anyone ask why it is the artists and concert promoters themselves do very little to try and help such fans get tickets. Nor have I seen anyone criticize the fact that a good number of the good seats get given as freebies for corporate promotions, etc. who most likely have very little interest in the artist.
And yes, plenty of companies are just as bad, and out purely for profit. The world is not a good place lol

Sadly I agree. But if that is the world we live in, my question still stands, why are touts somehow seen as being worse?

    I can see your points.
And Artists do charge a fair whack. But it depends who it is. I have been to see some big R&B people, like Usher, and Snoop Dogg / P Diddy (in 2weeks). Both of these were £35. To me thats decent value, and its for artists who could command much more (look at Madonna etc ripping people off).

You can only fight 1 battle at a time. And if the prices are already too high (like you say), then touts are only making them twice as bad.

I would rather see Usher make a £10 profit with my earned cash, (for 90mins decent entertainment) than see a tout make £40 just for going online and flogging tickets.

Like I say, I think (IMO) that selling anything over RRP on ebay is wrong pretty much..
Buying just to sell is not overly nice.

Selling paper is fine if you bought really cheap and sell fair. But if you bought cheap and sold for double RRP, then its not on. The difference is that people wont pay OTT for paper because its readily available elsewhere.

Anyway, we all know where we stand :)

I understand your views, but I dont agree with them all...same to you about me no doubt.

Onto another thread for me :)

I think giving yourself a username of Tout is hardly endearing yourself to anybody.

Perhaps not, but I just wanted to add to a discussion on a previous thread. Proves a point though, you've just seen the word tout and not businesswoman.

We could all log onto Ticketmaster at 9am everyday and buy the best new tickets to sell on.

    Yeah right.

You may call it hard work, but its not.

No, I've not called it that. Lol, logging in at 9am and getting the best new tickets is the easy bit !

If you were buying goods and selling them on ebay below RRP, and making money, then you are doing people a favour... and everybody is getting a good deal.

Lol, cause everyone in business looks to make a profit selling below the RRP :rotfl:

When you sell on ebay above RRP, then you are not. Granted, you cannot stop people bidding like this, but just buying for this purpose is not clever

Everyone buys things in life above the RRP !!! :rotfl:

If you can tell me that you made that buyer happier at £70 than the person who failed to get that ticket from Ticketmaster for £35 because of you, then you have are slightly dillusional.

    Then dillusional I am.

What a role model you are to your children. What an example to teach them. Touts rules of conduct:

    1. As long as you're alright, f*ck everyone else.

    2. Take advantage of anyone and everyone.

    3. Why go out and make a living when you can sit on your a$$ ripping off people?

If you had kept your mouth shut and not spouted off that you are holier than all and sod everyone else, but to spout off about it and wind up real fans with your pathetic attitude is unforgivable.

I'm a great believer in karma and all that lovely cash you have? You'll be getting a big bill for something soon ;)

You calmed down now ? :D
  • someone that chooses a username such as Tout or Businesswoman is obviously expecting to stir people into making comments.....

Absolutely. The idea ( at the time on another post ) was to generate a discussion.

Everyone of my auctions start at 99p. I win some I lose some. People choose to bid. I have never sold for an inflated BIN price.

    There, am I an :A now ? :D

    BUsiness sell above RRP?
Have you been shopping lately? The last time I found that most items are less than RRP. In fact, I dont know any stores that sell abpve RRP.
I think they would go out of business.

I noticed the businesswoman bit, I am not blind. I just put you more in the tout bracket.

I cant remember the last time I bought anything over RRP...this is moneysavingexpert after all. (tho perhaps we could create a "screw moneysavers with inflated prices" board just for you?)

Dillusional you are? You really think they are happier paying £70 from you than £35 from Ticketmaster?

I think you just proved with your comments that even people without brains can still make a good living as a tout :(

    Oh puuuuurlease.....

My kids love it ! Occasionally I sell a couple of spares just so that I can afford to take them to the odd gig too ! They're most greatful for the opportunity.

And they've learnt so many business skills too :D
