Read " the great cholesterol con" by doctor Malcolm kendrick , realise that this is the best selling and most profitable drug of all time as well, the link between a high fat diet, high chollesterol and heart disease is about as factual and proven as man made CO2 causing global warming, also ask yourself why there is absolutely no proof in existence that statins effect the mortality rate in women yet millions of women worldwide are prescribed this drug by their GP's , they are as usefull as SSRI's and thalidomide

100% with this, I deal with people from the "cholesterol hypothesis", even an academic in the subject I've been privileged enough to hear says the whole theory is full of "ifs, buts, maybes and conjecture" (paraphrasing here.)

I've read more compelling scientific research in key-stage 2 science projects than some of the stuff that points high cholesterol levels towards heart disease.

There's a lot of money to be made in it, but "the scientists sound more like the clergy" as a good friend put it.

my ldl level is 7,5 and my hdl level is 2,5 and my tricerydiclic(spelling??) level which is used to determine heart risk is 5,9 when the maximum should be 5 with the lowest 0,2.
What has alarmed with along with these readings is the state of my liver!--as far as i understand the liver regulates cholesterol.

The weekend has come and gone and still no alcohol. the wife has got me on loads of 'health food remedies coupled with a healthier diet(steamed chicken and food cooked with olive oil--no fried food etc)--
My MİL was advised by a urologist that there is a heightened risk of cancer from statins so i am being kept away from them. i want to speak to a specialist about the other drugs i take and combining them with the correct statins.

İ always thought the skin was unhealthy??-we had salmon yesterday with skin on and i carefully removed it. The type of chicken my wife buys is breast so has no skin.

OK, I'll summarise it, the study compared Atkins (low carb, moderate protein), the 'traditional' healthy diet as dictated for the last few decades, Ornish (vegan, very low fat) and the Zone diets. And found that the one generally accused of being the most unhealthy actually led to the best blood chemistry results, namely Atkins.

It's worth watching and then investigating further.

living where i do the diet is very low meat/fat whereas when i was in the uk i was a meat with every meal person. My body craves carbs more than anything else. i can go months without sugary things. -two years ago i went 9 months without alcohol or coffee and led a severe diet that dropped my weight 36lbs--i did loads of exercise as well. ---i am over weight now but nowhere near obese--i am 5 10 and about 82kgs which i think is about 13 stone.

I think I have stumbled across De1amo before, correct me if I am wrong, but has there not been some criticism of your drinking and driving? If I am correct you were in fact drinking quite a lot, that would not help your LFT's. If I am fact confusing you with another poster, I apologise, but alcohol is well known for causing liver issues.

A healthy liver will help you to regulate your cholesterol properly. Your total cholesterol means nothing, the reading that you need is your HDL to LDL ratio.
