My father has used statins for 20 odd years and he says it has added 15 years to his life. i am all in favour but the other meds i take need to be analysed before i can go on them. The doctors yesterday say my cholesterol tested so high due to alcohol consumption(7,5) -apart from my liver the rest of me is A1--the cardiologist said my arteries are clear and i am very fit!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

De1amo, what were you looking for fropm eople on this thread? Are you looking to chart your progress or something?
The thing with the drinking is that whether it is 'a lot' or not, for someone experiencing any liver problems any is generally too much.
I do drink alcohol but have a tradition of not drinking any in the first three months of the year, mainly because christmas etc its easy to drink more than one considers healthy with socialising and having a glass with x and later in the same day a glass with y. And a mimosa for christmas breakfast etc etc etc. i do not like 'drinking' for its own sake, but i do like wine, and so i decided early in aduilt hood that i wanted to be careful not to become a habitual drinker rather than an appreciative one, hence deciding to take a quarter of the year off. I know if i ever found this difficult then the habitual drinking would be set in imo, and i would give up entirely.
The liver is an astounding organ. As an undergraduate one of my lecturers preparing us for exams used to say ' if you are not sure what the answer is, write the liver...its almost certainly involved in someway'.
Why not give up alcohol entirely, and if it seems to bleak to consider entirely, then why not give up for a defined period of time, perhaps three months like i do, to start with.0 -
i have given up alcohol----the thread started out about my cholesterol which was initially down to alcohol consumption.-i would have given up years ago if my uk doctors had advised me of the results of my liver function tests/ raised cholesterol---i opened this because i was told i now have the liver function test of a muslim alcoholic! by specialists where i now live.
the thread is for info and discussion for people with info or wishing to gain info!
What i am curious about is the regenerative ability of the liver? its says it can be as much as 75pc?mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0 -
What on earth is a Muslim alcoholic and what is the liver like in such a person (a contradiction in terms, surely?)
I don't take statins because my GP, who is young and up-to-date, says they can cause hair loss. This, for a woman, is serious.
My stepdaughter tells me that last year when she weighed 9 stone more than she weighs now, her cholesterol level was 5.5, now it's 3.2. She's in her mid-40s.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

İn Turkey it is tea for the majority--alcohol is for the alcoholics--my liver function test never bothered my uk docs but this set here has gained me notariatory---i drank far more in the uk but having a few beers is alcoholism in turkey!
İ havent got much hair so that doesnt bother me--the concerns my wife has about statins is the susposed cancer links.--i just dont want to take another drug at present to stress my liver anymore.
i was 9,5 stone at 48 and could run for hours--there is nothing wrong with my fitness. i have a bit of a beer belly which is now shrinking --i have lost 2lbs this week by just stopping drinking and eating more greensmfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0 -
