Life has to change today!-cholestral problem

Options
İ live in turkey which means the measurement of my cholestral level has been done in a different format. The scale they use is 0 to 200 normal but mine has just tested at 394! Along with it i had a test on my liver function which was extremely high to due to other essential medicine i take for a MH issue.
The doctor here has suggested i take more meds for the cholestral but i am unhappy compoundig the load on the liver.--do statins cause damage to the liver?
i really have to change my whole life style though and the doctor has told me i must exercise and reduce my drinking to almost nil. İ was wondering if anyone has dietry advice or wonder techniques for reducing my cholestral?

Lots of oats, olive oil and pumpkin seeds seems to have worked for my OH. The last two should be easy to get hold of in Turkey as well.

There's a lot of websites with lists of foods and lifestyle changes which will help - too many to list here, but do a search.

    Hope this helps

The liver regulates cholesterol levels, but eating a lot of foods containing saturated fats can override this, and lead to high cholesterol levels, so I guess they'd be the sorts of food to avoid or cut down on.

Read " the great cholesterol con" by doctor Malcolm kendrick , realise that this is the best selling and most profitable drug of all time as well, the link between a high fat diet, high chollesterol and heart disease is about as factual and proven as man made CO2 causing global warming, also ask yourself why there is absolutely no proof in existence that statins effect the mortality rate in women yet millions of women worldwide are prescribed this drug by their GP's , they are as usefull as SSRI's and thalidomide

Well, it's obvious, isn't it - nothing arrives overnight! Our body organs have a lot of capacity to repair themselves and to cope with unhealthy lifestyles, but over time, they will start to show the damage. You mentioned drinking. How much? Too much? The remedy is in your hands. Stop drinking and allow your liver to recover.

Do you mean 3 or 4 pints - how much beer do you actually drink?

Don't worry about what others do. They're not you. You're the one who has to be in charge of your own health and well-being, not them.

    Have a watch of this.

You might be surprised by which diet came out top for improving cholesterol etc.
Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
    48 down, 22 to go
Low carb, low oxalate Primal + dairy
From size 24 to 16 and now stuck...

http://www.thincs.org/index.htm this also might be useful.

It is no good taking 1 single level as a measure for cholesterol, apart from HDL and LDL readings there are different categories in both, that are both good and bad! What you really need to know is your triglyceride level (a much better marker for heart disease than cholesterol), specifically the ratio of triglycerides to HDL.

Triglyceride levels always come down on a low-carb diet - the body's excess sugar is packaged into triglycerides, so the less sugar in the body the lower the levels. Hence daska's link.
