OK so you are not denying that you are the person who was criticised for drink driving. I seem to remember that you were in denial about your drinking and that the inference from others who had read your other posts was that you were borderline alcoholic? I would be much more concerned with potential cirrhosis if this is the case.

what my driving habits have got to do with this?----i never drove a car i would ride a scooter!! i did it rarely maybe twice a year---i am not the hardened alcoholic that people seem to want to portray. İ drank no more than 3 or 4 times a week at home!

But you stated that you have a genetic fault affecting your liver, therefore you shouldn't drink AT ALL!

Your poor liver has to process the alcohol, and then you expect it to return a 'healthy' cholesterol reading in addition! Be a little bit realistic, please.

The doctor who advised me of the fault was aware of the amount i drank and at no point warned me! i presumed my level of consumption was permissable!--he was looking at my bloods so could see the evidence but at no time warned me!---the warning of liver malfunction goes back about 10 years when i drank far more!(lived in the uk)--i stopped drinking for 9 months because my family said i looked yellow but the GP who saw me said nothing!

Personally I would think that those doctors are culpable, but you should have known this yourself if you did any Human Biology at school? There is a huge amount of information out there on the internet - you can easily find out details of what the liver does and how it can be damaged.

Ultimately we all have to take responsibility for our own health and well-being and not be constantly finding excuses, blaming someone else whether GP or anyone else.

My father is a retired GP but he shows little interest in me because my drugs are the MH type and as a GP they have little knowledge of them. Besides he couldnt see my bloods so presumed my own GP was watching things.(it was him who noticed my toxicity).--when your in the hands of supposed professionals who are supposed to know what they are doing you tend not to search.---MH drugs arent talked about epeicially when you take a cocktail. My yearly blood test requires 4 tubes testing everything!--the turkish GP has referred me to a physc consultant because it is out of his field of knowledge but in the uk i have had no Physc consultant for 10 years despite the drugs i am on being special to that part of medicine---i swear they were trying to kill me by neglect

What an odd attitude for a GP or the child of a Dr. As a Dr's daughter I am very aware of the gaps in knowledge of GP's and will research things. I have more knowledge than the average layman due to my uprbringing and education.

I remember it was a scooter and it became crystal clear that you were drinking A LOT more than you were prepared to accept. This is compounded by your having a liver disorder that inhibits breakdown of alcohol - you as a dr's child should be ashamed for not being in charge of your own health. (what is your liver issue?)

QUOTE=de1amo;53353049]i learnt something yesterday which has stopped me drinking. My liver function test is really crap due to my drinking(and some medicine i have to take) and this has caused my 'bad' cholestrol to rocket so its either stop or risk sudden death.
Also i was spending a fortune on booze which was just being wee'd away instead of being used for more positive things![/QUOTE]

This is taken from another thread that you have contributed to. 'Spending a fortune' is not drinking the couple of bottles of beer 3 x a week you have said that you drink.

hi i came across this thread and found it very useful as my oh is trying to detoxify liver and improve the health of his internal organs etc. thank you to all the posters. It seems like there is a lot of divided opinion about what someone should or shouldnt be doing with their lives or what diet medical opinion best supports but my concerns are:

Long term effects of MH medication on the internal organs: Rethink charity have a good item on MH meds and co morbidity.

The turkish medical system: my former partner's father was referred for test after test each time the doctor was saying he needed further tests at the private hospital which cost endless money. They gave the number for specific doctors and I think they were referring to their friends for profit. The UK system of NHS is non-competitive so I think that's why they often say "do nothing". Don't forget that it is in a lot of people's interests for you to go on more meds such as statins: drug company, doctor as you will attend more appts, psych, etc etc. Anyway sounds like you have been there a while so you prob know better than me and that was just one experience in a rural area of the country.

good luck with whatever you choose, your body, your life, your health! Speaking personally I am totally overwhelmed by the amount of conflicting health info out there.

The doctor i have used is a friend and not just a GP -he is a consultant dealing with organs.--i am off to a cardiologist this afternoon who will do an 'effort' test coupled with an appointment with an associated lecturer in the subject.--it will cost me 35 pounds.
Then i will see a MH specialist consultant that i will explain my medication to and see what statins he advises--i will ask for bloods to be taken to check levels because with the liver playing up they may have risen!--it will cost me 4 pounds to see him.
We pay National insurance at the top rate which means we can go private for minimal cost---once they take you on there is nothing more to pay.
They have recently changed the law in Turkey which means any foreigner who has a residence visa can pay about 100 pounds a month and get medical care from the state. i am not sure if they get open choice on providers though.-we live in a big city where there is an abundence of first class hospitals.
My father and i dont really talk because i am so far away--he buys his own drugs in the uk because the NHS refuse to supply the right drugs for his ailments because of their cost cutting. he knows the right drugs and they refuse to proscribe them because at 85 he is expendable. He has fought with the NHS for about 15 years over his treatment and he just goes private now and tells the Doc what he needs.----at 62 he was retired due to high BP and he has lived well and long despite the NHS' attempts.
