Sold a car by RIGHT CAR with no MOT - where do I stand?
Comments
-
I have spoken to them and they have admitted fault and have said they will sort it, but I am just worried about driving it there when it isn't MOT'd and also what will happen if they can't sort it tomorrow as I need my car as I have arrangements for the weekend.
It isn't law that a car must be sold with full MOT by a dealer that I'm aware of but I take it from your posts that they did discuss this with you / promise to do so? If they did then yes it is also (at least partly) their fault for failing to do so and they do need to honour the agreement made (especially if you can prove it was made)
Despite the oversight (I presume) in failing to MOT it as discussed presumably you've had no worries about driving it before now, "not knowing" would have provided no legal defence for you so why panic now that you actually know it's not MOT'd (as far as the law is concerned nothing has really changed)?
You shouldn't generally drive an un MOT'd car of course so could perhaps ask that they collect it on trade plates or tow truck if you prefer though as already said if its booked in for MOT, is otherwise ok (taxed insured, no obvious faults to make it unroadworthy) etc the police would probably let you head on your way even if you were stopped on the way there but whatever you decide to do on that it seems to me they've made a mistake, agreed to put it right for you and there isn't therefore a major problem to rant about here.
What else did you want them to do now?0 -
merely putting the point over that the OP is stupid for not checking the MOT was as statedI

I get my boyfriend to check them because he does his so he just does mine whilst he is at it.
I got it MOT'd today by Right Car and incurred no cost. Sorted. The more one gets to know of men, the more one values dogs.0 -

I forgot EVERYONE is perfect and never makes a mistake. You don't know me to make a judgement and actually I am not stupid, so keep your pathetic comments to yourself. The more one gets to know of men, the more one values dogs.0 -

I dont need to know you to know that buying a car and taking some strangers word about the documents relative to the vehicle and not checking them YOURSELF IS STUPID,
perhaps next time you will have learned from this episodeI

Well I hope next time you make a mistake you get ridiculed. The more one gets to know of men, the more one values dogs.0

Well that's funny because when I said to Right Car that I should have checked and that we both need to sort it the man said no it is his fault as it was his responsibility to check before he signs the car over.
I don't post on here much any more as most people just have a go and don't offer advice.
I forgot that everyone on here is perfect, apart from me of course.
How do I owe you £500
Remember the quote from an ex American president, "Trust, but verify",
;)
And yes, you have to take responsibility for ensuring you are driving legally, but others have no right to sumise anything else about your driving or safety awareness from the info you have posted. It happens far too often on here and some posters should know better, they read a few lines and think they can do a phycho analysis on a poster :A. Posters who do this would react exactly the same way as the op if aspertions were cast over thier inteligence.
Now sorted and no one died.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

Again, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say nothing at all. I'm sure that's in the forum rules somewhere.
Ok the OP made a mistake. It happens. They are asking for advice not abuse.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

let it go now, the OP panicked because they thought they could end up in all sorts of trouble, OP sorted it now, and I'm sure next time OP buys a car they will check every single blot of ink on every bit of paperwork so they're sorted now...0
