Sold a car by RIGHT CAR with no MOT - where do I stand?
Comments

Sorry but you are the one that never checked the documents you were given for 6 months.
As already said there is no law that says you need to put 11 months MOT on a vehicle in order to sell it, whoever told you that is either an idiot or was pulling your leg.
I strongly suspect that the garage forgot to put an MOT on it when they sold it to you and nobody double checked prior to you collecting it.
I am afraid I honestly don't understand people that treat driving a car in such a cavalier way as you do.
Everytime you drive a car on the road it is your responsibility to ensure it is legal to do so and in a good state of repair and has a current MOT etc.
I bet the op hasn't checked the tyres in the time they've had it.0 -
I suspect you may well be correct on that score.0

Actually my boyfriend checks my tyres for me at the weekend when I travel down to see him and I keep a foot pump in my boot.
Why do people have to be so negative and condescending on these forums?
I don't drive in a "cavalier" way, I was told it had an MOT. Do you scan every document meticulously??
And actually, smart !!!!!, Right Car have admitted its their fault. The more one gets to know of men, the more one values dogs.0 -

When it comes to MOT and insurance, I'm afraid that yes, I do, and all drivers should. That's not a dig, what happened to you is an easy enough mistake but please learn from it for next time.
If you'd been stopped without an MOT then, regardless of any admission by them, it would be you getting the ticket so it's really in your own interests to make sure of the dates and other details on a new car's documents.0 -

Service history and all MOTs to check mileages all match up.
V5 and engine, vin numbers to make sure it is the correct car and advertised no. of owners.
if a dealer sale try to contact the previous owner and even consider phoning the garage that did the last service.
Ask for the service records manufacturer dealer serviced.
check the MOTs on line for advisories
...........
Driving away without checking the MOT is a bit negligent since the pre purchase checks would have identified it was due.
Did you check anything on this car?0 -

It's actually your fault. Who's been driving it since December without a MOT?0 -

perhaps because IT IS UP TO YOU TO CHECK THE DOC's not the dealer,
do you check your change in shops or just expect it to be right
Oh and you still owe me £500I

Well that's funny because when I said to Right Car that I should have checked and that we both need to sort it the man said no it is his fault as it was his responsibility to check before he signs the car over.
I don't post on here much any more as most people just have a go and don't offer advice.
I forgot that everyone on here is perfect, apart from me of course.
How do I owe you £500The more one gets to know of men, the more one values dogs.0 -
So they'll be doing the mot for free then, including any work that needs doing?0
-
Yep, this was agreed earlier on that they will MOT it for free and if any work is needed they will do it.
And give me a courtesy car whilst mine is at the garage. The more one gets to know of men, the more one values dogs.0
