Are you sure that you have messages in OE6 on your slave drive?
Failing that, do you have more than one identity for OE6 on the slave drive? You will know this if, when you searched for the *.dbx files, you found dbx files in more than one directory.0 -
Just another thought. At one point I suggested you run OE on the slave drive. If you did try this - maybe it is is running without you knowing. So switch off computer and reboot an try the import again.0

Hi, well I closed down IE and tried again, it still gave the same message. Have re-booted and tried again - still getting the same message. I must be doing something wrong! This is what I am doing:-
Opening Outlook Express
Selecting file
Selecting import
Selecting messages
Selecting Microsoft Outlook Express 6
Selecting Import Mail from an OE6 store directory
Browsing for file location (from the slave drive 'D')
Selecting next
at which point I get the error message.
There ARE messages as found by searching for *dbx, and I also found my way to this same file by another method.
I don't think I have more than one location for these messages, but if I did, surely this would not matter as I have specified the file location where I know there to be messages?
Have done another search and they are definitely there!0 -
Try it manually by selecting all the files form the folder on your D drive and then copy/paste into your current OE folder on your C drive.

Just because you find the dbx file, it does not mean that it contains any messages.
If you have more than one identity on your computer there will be a range of dbx files for each identity in different folders. You could be trying to retrieve messages for another indentity that does not have any messages.
And do you have Outlook Express version 6 on both drives? If you have an older version of Outlook Express on the slave drive you will have to import from the relevant version of Outlook Express.
Finally, are you absolutely sure you are searching for the dbx files on the slave drive? What drive letter is assigned to the slave drive?0 -

That could cause problems if susy has used Outlook Express on nthe master drive to retrieve messages, set up contacts etc. They will get lost!0 -

Agreed - but they may be the same ones she's trying to recover fromanyway.
Alternate tack would be to create a new folder on C: (call it mailtemp) and copy/paste into there.
Then run the OE Import wizard and try to browse to the new location.

ok, yes I have used outlook express on this current hard drive and I did read the link you sent to me Paul which says that new data will be lost if old messages copied across. I only have the one identity on my old (slave) drive. The drive letter assigned for the slave drive is 'D'. I assume both versions of Oulook Express must be 6 as they were created from the same XP disc.
Many thanks Toxteth for your earlier advice and links re: repairing windows XP in another thread. The 2nd link seems the easiest to follow, which I intend to do, but as you see from this link, I am trying to copy over all important data first. When I do it, I will let you know how it goes (fingers crossed)0 -

I agree with that Toxteth. Why not give that a try susy?0 -
