thanks for posting template letters guys, i'm sending mine off today which is 32 days before my next bill, that should give them enough time to work out how much i owe them.
i'm going to email it also, so that it's "recorded" delivery. does anyone happen to know three's email address?

Just wanted to wish everyone good luck who is currently trying to cancel their Three contract without the ETC!! It can be done.. Dont listen to their bulls**t.. Write a letter and send it recorded delivery to Three explaining sec 10.1

Its an iPhone 4 tariff i had with them since Sept 2011 and it got cancelled with no ETC on final bill.....
FURTHER UPDATE FOLKS....
Received a letter from Three customer services regarding an
e-mail i apparently sent them!!! It was a letter, my god they can't even get that bit right!!! How do this outfit manage to operate i do not know!! There a shower of s**te!!
Anyway, got this letter and it states that i'll have to pay an ETC even though i have my final bill, my account is closed and i double checked with customer services that my outstanding balance is 73p in credit!! There customer service, admin processes are a complete and utter shambles!!
I'll type a paragraph contained in the letter from Three customer services.....
"In clause 10.1d of our terms and conditions, it states that customers are entitled to cancelin the event of a change resulting in a material detriment. However, you don't have the right to end your contract with us because of our latest price changes, as it is not detrimental to your contract"
I mean can you beleive these rockets!! How can Three determine what is detrimental to me, they have no idea what my income and expediture is...
Anyway, got the final bill it states i'm 73p in credit with no ETC on the bill, reconfirmed this with customer services who confirmed that is my final bill and i owe no more money...

Don't count your chicks!
This "final" bill in credit covers the completion of your service (ie your useage/line rental)
It won't be a final account from 3 as you will discover shortly when another bill surfaces!0 -

I am dyslexic and writing letters is really difficult for me. if you could post a version of your letter with personal information taken out of it, it would be a great help to me.
