Hi,
I am looking for some storage jars to store dried foods in. What do people use or recommend?
I want something to store, plain flour, self raising flour, bread flour, oats, sugar. Ideally to hold 1.5kg, as that is the bag size I get of flour etc.
happy with plastic, or glass with airtight seals.
Had a look on argos and tesco and lakeland, going to go into Lakeland tomorrow to better judge the sizes as it is hard online.
How do you store all of your cooking supplies?

I don't decant any of those dry goods into containers at all. They're kept in a cupboard and not on show so I don't think it's important and they're used up quickly enough so I'm not worried about them going stale. You can get nice Kilner jars that would be big enough. I see them in charity-shops now and then and when I do I buy them, and you can buy the replacement rubber seals for them easily, too0

Depends where in the UK you are, I get some decent square shaped ones from B & M Bargins0

I also use the bags it came in. Very MSE.
I do like the IKEA "Förvar" hexagonal jars, though ...

... and they do hold 1.5kg of rice. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

I have lots of jars (bought from the 99p shop) like this for my dry goods as the contents are easily identifiable and they tesselate well. They are great for storing goods that I use only occasionally.
Flours can so easily be mixed up so I tend to keep them in the bag they came in. Ditto sugars as both tend to be all or nothing for me, so there's no point in decanting.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I use Lock N Lock containers, my kitchen suffers badly with condensation and these keep the food fresh and free from mould. I prefer the nestable ones as they take up much less space when empty.0

Anything from Lakeland will be good, as are lock and lock.
However, I just put a food bag over the bag the flour or whatever comes in, just to catch any flour which always falls out.0 -
Like others who've posted on here I realised ages ago that decanting into jars was just an extra job (including keeping them clean on the worktops!) although they do look nicer.
I use the Douwe Egberts coffee jars for teabags, coffee, sugar and dried milk beside the kettle. (Often seen for sale at Car boots) and I use those square plastic screw top jars that you get fruit in for things like dried fruit, sunflower seeds etc. (Classified as 'bags that split easily!') They stack nicely in the larder.
I bought the big Ikea glass jars for rice, oats etc and find them difficult to pour out of as they are quite heavy when full. Plastic cereal storers would probably be better. HTHThe beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.
