We'll all keep our fingers crossed that you manage to persuade him! It sounds so the right thing to do for all sorts of reasons.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

I'm sure I've read that dishwashers are more energy efficient than handwashing when they're loaded correctly - so keep going!
I can't see how an electric dishwasher can be more energy-efficient than handwashing, Karmacat:rotfl: . Most people have plenty of hot water available anyway and you can usually buy washing-up liquid on special offer. You need tea-towels for drying but everyone does loads of clothes etc.washing anyway so that's no extra energy cost. All you have to add is elbow-grease at zero cost. Dishwashers need electricity, loads of super-hot water(heated by the machine)plus you have to pay for a variety of detergents,rinse-aids and other chemicals.
Energy and cost-wise...no contest!

I am right excited - always wanted one as a kid, but I got lumbered with the viola instead! It was big and awkward to take on the school bus, and I envied the flute players who just popped their instrument into their school bag!
I can empathise with you over that, hypno. I played the cello and was a member of the local Youth Orchestra as well as our school one. I seemed to be lugging the blessed thing all over the place! I was really pleased I opted to learn to play the cello, though, it's still my favourite instrument even though I sold mine many moons ago. My favourite way of de-stressing is to listen to Jaqueline Du Pre's wonderful recording of Elgar's Cello Concerto on my very old vinyl LP:j
Good luck with the flute. You must be really talented if you can teach yourself to play an instrument, I envy you. I needed tuition, tuition and yet more tuition with anything I ever tried to play:o0 -

Not a clue, imp, honestly! I handwash; its just what I've read. Don't shoot the messenger, she's got a cold (sob).....2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I was wondering about the whole dishwasher thing too, but I have also seen somewhere that if stacked properly and full, the dishwasher is more efficient that washing by hand lots of times - I can't see how unless you factor in doing washing up each time there is something dirty and therefore filling and refiling the sink?
I don't use the dishwasher now as I use the tumble drier, but have no idea if it saves us money by not uising it . I might have to get one of those energy checker thingys.

Awww Karmacat, I hope I didn't upset you:o . I certainly didn't mean to, please forgive me. I just found the idea of anything electrical being more energy-efficient than doing the same thing by hand a bit comical that's all. Me and my stupid sense of humour!
Sorry to hear about your cold and hopeit will be gone really quickly without causing you too much pain and inconvenience.
Big hugs
Imp
P.S. I suppose it is energy-efficient in that it saves our own physical energy but not electrical energy IYKWIM0 -
No, don't worry, I'm just feeling sorry for myself - I posted earlier, I haven't had a cold for ages, I don't know what to do with myself! I *know* the electrical thing is counter-intuitive, and if I was in the market for a dishwasher myself, I'd make *really* sure I knew who'd done the research that said it was greener. Thanks for the hugs!2023: the year I get to buy a car0
