I think I might have to join you, my debt is not shrinking fast enough.
Maybe a back to basics for me.......

OH announced that he'll need £10K to finance a car, but he'll get that back in 2 years time; now do I Add that to the debt, or call it his debt and ignore it?

Great news about the bike Hypno - and getting that egg card down below the next milestone.

I think feng shui is a lot of common sense and a bit of nonsense wrapped together but it's definitely worth a go and clearing clutter lifts the spirits - all the better if you can sell some of it too.

Hope you have a good day and this afternoon's decluttering frees up some more mystic chi!

Call it his debt and ignore it. That's what I decided to do this year, after a lot of soul-searching - my OH has higher interest debts than me but he isn't interested in clearing them in the same way so I've decided to go it alone with 'mine'. And I've felt much more positive and motivated since then.

OliveOyl, you have to do what is right for you regarding OH debts.

For us, everything has been joint since the day we got married 17 years ago - all income, all debt. So ours is a joint thing.

The only thing that I sort of did as a "mine and his" seperation, was that the money that I got from my Dad's estate, went off those debts that are in MY name! Doesn't make any difference on a day to day basis, or how we pay things off etc, but it was a little matter of principal, and felt right.

So, whatever works for you has to be right.

I agree Seaxwyn, that while OH is not "on side" re the debt busting/money thing you should leave him be, otherwise you will be forever doing one step forward, several back.

I am lucky in that OH is on side, in the way that he just doesn't want to get involved in money, and leaves it all to me to sort. If I tell him there is no money there, he accepts it etc

And my love corner is in my utility room where the dirty washing gets piled up before going in the washing machine...... Ah well, OH said he wanted a dirty girlfriend :D.

    Thanks guys!

Auntiebrenda - my microwave is in my love corner - might explain a few things:rotfl:

BAUK I am hoping to do a matched betting frenzy over the next few weeks - I reckon I can do enough to get me to that £10000 paid this year.

Hypno, like you everything has been joint since we've been together. (Solicitor vaguely bemused when we went in to do our wills, 2nd marriage each with own kids etc, so I guess it is unusual nowadays)

But this debt is for his specific circumstances, co pay 50% of car, he finds the remainder, and when he leaves that country he sells the car (currently 2nd hand ones reach 85% of the price of new!) keeping the dosh, which will pay off the loan. I really don't want to look as though I'm going backwards, so I think I will call it part of his living expenses for being away from home. ;)

    Hi hypno

ooh, you're getting really close to some big milestones, aren't you! Great news about the bike - I wish my clutter would sell for so much. I suspect that I'll end up ditching a lot of stuff at the charity shop in the end, there's lots of little things - wooden hand-carved coasters from Zimbabwe, for instance - but no *big* things to sell. Ah well .......

I'm a bit lost with all the feng shui now! Best to just concentrate on decluttering, I think, focus on the detail later. Glad to hear about the matched betting AND the potential new money spinner in the New Year. I love your focus!
