Hypno's kick up the backside debt diary....

My one ray of sunshine in my day was that I got a letter from the library - I have books due back last February, but had not taken them back because the fines are the size of a small country's national debt. Anyway, today I receive the letter saying they are giving me a 14 day amnesty and I won't have to pay any fine if I return them in this period. Fantastic!! Guess where I will be heading later in the week
Just thought there's been so much going on, did you take the book/books back?
Hopefully they might let you borrow again for free books for Devon!
I always had problems with our boys library books/tapes until we ended up with a routine, as soon as they finished them they were put in a specific highly visible spot near the front door along with the post.
For the long car journey we always use to borrow audio tapes, presumably it's audio CD's now. Kids ones use to be free, including things like Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit etc.. The BBC radio dramatisations are/were brilliant. Look for ones with a 'higher pitched narrator', otherwise the road noise can be a problem.0 -
I will be heading into the City to go the library on Tuesday, still within the amnesty period!
We have a mobile library van that stops just around the corner from us - it visits at least once a week, and the children get their books from there - also they don't fine if you are late back!! So I think I will be using that for the foreseeable future!!
Isn't it awful when you get scared about taking your library books - it is that stern look of disappointment the librarian gives, I am sure!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I loved it when our library started doing online renewals. It meant I could renew things 3 times before I actually had to take them back. I wouldn't mind but it's only a fifteen minute walk....it's just I never seem to have the time. Right, back to work! Talking of work i'm sorting out my website address tonight xxJanuary budget

Some libraries are cheaper than normal DVD rentals, not all, we lived on the border of two councils!
We were lucky at our last house and the local library in one county was brilliant on 'world cinema' and classics, which we were in to.
The benfit was that you got them for a week rather than a day, so for school holidays it's a thought. Also offspring like to browse, so it's something cheap to add on to the summer holiday schedule.
You need to make sure they go back on time, for the dvd's ours used to charge a lot if they were overdue. Also don't leave books/DVD's to be checked in, we've had times where it's been kept on our cards even though returned. So always wait until it's scanned correctly.
Sorry too many years of MSE before MSE existed0 -
Afternoon hypno!
Just been catching up and I am pleased that you have had some good news along the way this week!
I am off to Devon on holiday this year as well! But as we don't have children we have elected to go in September when hopefully the weather will still be nice and the roads less busy. Plus the accommodation was a bit cheaper.
Yes that *is* a credit balance on my signature but I am just about to amend it. It will still be a credit until next week then on 31st it will get walloped and come the end of August it will be up to around £1000 again
But I am hoping/planning for a healthier bank balance after August/September pay days if I stop getting sidetracked by clothes......I am off to confess on spending thread now....however it's a bit DFW as well so will be also updating the "What Have You Done Today" thread too!
Have a lovely day!

But the overdraft is still an improvement on recent times though isn't it? So generally moving in the right direction?
We are having a lazy day - I am flicking through MSE, trying to catch up, and OH is playing "brain training" on DD's nintendo thing! The sun is shining and we really should be outside, but we can't be bothered!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. You are right - it *is* an improvement but sometimes, I feel like it will never end. It takes someone from the 'outside' sometimes to point out achievements/progress I think.
So thanks!
I know - there is always so much pressure to get out in the sun when it has been raining for so long isn't there? I just burn in the sun so I can't be out in it for long although I do like it.
Also when you can't go too far either, it's not quite the same. Might go and sit out with a book & a drink of squash soon......but might not!Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Hi Hypno,
I know it's not been a great week for you, and your target of clearing £15K this year is looking further away, but remember your original target was to clear £10K, which you are almost certainly going to be able to do. Considering your basic SoA shows a deficit each month and you always have to make up the difference with extra work, ebay, matched betting etc it's truly amazing what you've already achieved.
Stuff like the laptop unfortunately happen along the DFW road, but consider that pre-LBM you'd probably have bought a more expensive one, still on credit, but not worried about how to pay it off.
The car accident has obviously affected you this week too and the added stress can't be helping - perhaps you should take some of your own medicine as it were and go for a session with another therapist?Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06
