For dinner tonight I thought I might do Corned Beef Hash. So, corned beef, potatoes, onion all fried up together in a bit of olive oil with some herbs from the garden and a fried egg on top will be the order of the day. Cheap, and easily padded out with extra potato, pepper and onion, and easily freezable should I make too much. Looking forward to it already!!

Sounds delicious. CBH is one of DH's favourites but I also put lots of sliced carrots in mine plus sliced mushrooms. Makes a little corned beef go a bit further;) Need to parboil the carrot slices a bit first as they never seem to soften otherwise!

Those Norwegians have the cheek of the devil:eek: . It's bad enough all 4 expecting to be fed but diabolical if they just appear for feeding without arrangement/invitation. I know quite a lot of Norwegians and without exception they are courteous and polite, unlike your 4.

On the plus side, at least they'll soon be gone from your life:j unless the threatened bad weather over the weekend/early next week spoils their plans:eek:

One thing that has puzzled me about your lodger....what was a Norwegian doing in Norwich for a year:confused: ? I lived in the Newcastle area for a few years and there were always loads of Norwegians there because of trade, the ferry companies etc, but Norwich...why???

    Hi Impomdasp!

We have had a Norwegian AS level student with us each year for the last 3 years. They are 17/18 and so need a host family while they go to school here for a year.

Generally they are ok, we provide them with a room, 3 meals a day and invite them to do "family stuff" and there are about 30 of them in the county each year, all at different schools - between 2 and 4 per high school/6th form across Norfolk.

The two previous ones we have had have been fab, and although there is nothing "wrong" with this one, there is a severe inability within his whole family to communicate, so he had no idea when his mum was arriving etc which I found quite amazing! This family do not use mobile phones etc - it is almost like they are living 50 years ago when you can just "pop by" and there is always a pot of stew on the go!

The other families have been living in the 21st Century so we have never had a problem with them!!

We have already met the girl who is staying with us next year - she came over in the Easter Hols with last year's student who came back to visit us and stayed with us a couple of days so I am sure next year will be a little different!

We do it though because they pay well :rotfl: No other reason :o

Not as much resentment KC as I had last time the Mum came over in October - she said she had b&b accomodation arranged, which she did have for the first couple of nights - then she said she needed somewhere to stay for 1 night so I offered her my floor in my therapy room, but she stayed a week!!! She took over my kitchen for cooking food I did not want, and left the clearing up to me! My therapy room, which is my little space of calm, suddenly felt anything but, and I had to "cleanse" it every day big time before I could see clients. It was awful!

At least this time they are only here for a few days - she did offer to provide food for dinner, but as it is a tin of "reindeer meat meatballs", I declined and offered to stick to the corned beef hash instead!

    Congratulations!

Mine was three days ago (only 9 years though!) and didn't even see OH as he was working away. Had to make do with a phone call. Not that we ever really celebrate. I would rather he caried on bringing home little surprises all year round for no reason than did something for WA because he had to.

    Have a good one!

Happy anniversary choco for last week :T

I have to say thanks to Sea78 for giving me the idea of ebaying my clubcard vouchers - I have just listed £21 of vouchers so hope to get a reasonable amount of money for them that will be far more useful than the vouchers will be!

Have completed the spreadsheet for July and tried to account for everything I can think of. Then I sat OH down with it and went through everything (he is a head in the sand type of guy, but doesn't spend madly, just doesn't "do" finances - even rings me up to ask me which card to pay for petrol with each time!) and explained how it would be but that if we stick to it, there is no reason why we can't get to the end of the month without going into the overdraft (first time in many years!).

He seems ok with it, knows it will be tight but hopefully we can work together on it (for a change!).

Also did a Eurobet bonus thingy which got me £7.50 and have done £8 of surveys this morning, and started looking through quidco for the best car insurance & cashback as this is due in the middle of the month (all included in the budget :T ).

Sorry all, but I just have to share this with you.....

DD got a book for her birthday "The girls' book how to be the best at everything". In it there are such diverse things as "how to keep a secret diary" to "how to tame a wild horse".

Just read the following which you never know, might just be useful to you....

How to survive an alien invasion.....

Aliens usually invade large cities where they can cause maximum death and destruction, so when news of an invasion first breaks, consider moving to the countryside.

Alien spaceships are very large and hard to miss. This gives you an advantage. If, in the middle of the day, the sun is suddenly blocked out and there is no eclipse scheduled in your area, take immediate action and alert the authorities.

Stockpile enough food and water to keep your family alive for several weeks and barricade yourself in your house. Aliens are supremely intelligent beings but they often have difficulty with such things as doorknobs, or going up and down stairs. So hide in the largest upstairs room in the house. Aliens are also very easily confused by their own reflection, so line the room with every mirror you can find in the house.

Aliens will sometimes try to disguise themselves as humans. Luckily they are not very good at it. If you come across an incredibly short man with glowing red eyes and a strange echoing voice, trust your instincts and run away as fast as possible.

Alien races often have fatal reactions to things that are commonplace on earth, such as water or the cold virus. If you come face to face with a creature from another planet, try squirting it with a water pistol or sneezing on it.

As I was typing this, first of all I thought it was a complete load of tosh........then I thought of my Norwegian Guests :o
