So, my well hammered keyboard on my MBP lets it down and the keyboard backlight hasn't been working for some time so I decided to change them.
As I have a business repairing and refurbing laptops I decided to DIY it.
£40 saw me sorted with both a new keyboard and backlight courtesy of Ebay.
Using the iFixit guide, I had the job done in about an hour. What got me when I was doing this is just how well put together these things are and how well they're planned out. There is belt and braces on everything such as the connector for the screen cable having a metal locking catch to hold it in place even though it doesn't need one. Even cable guides for such as the screen cable which are a bit of plastic on even the high end laptops are separate removable alloy ones on these.
But what really amazed me was when I removed the backlight film and got to the keyboard screws. THERE MUST HAVE BEEN FIFTY OF THE BLOODY THINGS if not more. No wonder the keyboard feels so solid despite being able to roll it up when you remove it. There's basically a screw inbetween every other key. Most of the hour spent doing the job was removing and replacing all these little screws.
I have yet to see a single Windows laptop, even the expensive £1500+ corporate ones that are as well built. Even my beloved Thinkpad T and X series aren't put together as well as my MBP and my MBP costs LESS.

I always find it comfortingly reassuring that almost all those who mock Apple cannot even construct a sentence in grammatical English. :cool:Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

Don't you mean grammatically correct English?
Apple products are awful to replace simple parts. A guide to swapping the hard drive on my old iBook involved removing every component to get to it. I have no idea how you would swap the battery with a spare on n iphone.0 -

The current MBP are quite simple. Undo the screws on the base, undo a plastic retainer on the shock mount and out she comes.
Batteries on the iPhone are supposed to be none-user replaceable. They're supposed to be non-user replaceable on my MBP too but the only thing making them none replaceable is the use of a couple of three slotted "security" screws to hold the battery in (tool available on Ebay/Maplins) and the fact it plugs into a header on the mainboard.0 -
MBP?? wish 'i' people would not speak in abbreviations. i had to google it as i guessed that it might be short for for My Beloved Pad"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0
