Just a quick hello! tomorrow is quit day for me, I am a creature of nature and to be honest I have been thinking about giving it up for a long time. Tomorrow is my quit day, I am going cold turkey because I am an all or nothing type of guy, I know that cutting down will be a battle, because I will convince myself that I am cutting down but in reality just kid myself. I am all geared up for the challenge, I have two days off work and I plan on only leaving the house to take the kids to school and collecting them. I may just spend all day in bed under my covers and feeling sorry for myself but I will get through it!

    hi 166million

just wanted to offer my support too

the BIGGESt step is that you have made the possitive step to decide to quit , never give up and feel you cant do it ..YOU CAN

those cravings DO pass, and before you know it you wont be thinking about them , when the cravings come try and keep occupied if they come into your head when you are doing certain things a temporary change in your routine may help ? or say i will have one in an hour, and before you know it it'll pass

seek advice if patches continue to irritate though there may be some hypo allengenic ( sp ) ones available ?

drink plenty , get some air, chew gum, suck ice lollies ( not at the same time;) )

focus on reasons why you want to quit and ALL the possitives you will feel

stick with us the support is here and WE know exactly how you are feeling and what you are going through

    best wishes

166 million - I had the exact same thing, It is the adhesive that they use in the patches, or so my Dr told me. I would ask for a change of patch brand, the nicorette? i think (blue box) clear ones still irritated my skin, but nowhere near as bad.

Hi downnotout and a very warm welcome to the thread!

Please don't think of yourself as giving up anything....you're not, you'll just be gaining in so very much, especially your health and pocket.

All of us CAN quit, we may tell ourselves we can't because it all seems like to much hardship, but try to think ahead of what it will feel like to be FREE from them - and for good.

There are so many pluses to be had and you deserve every single one.

If you're a guy in the sense of a fellar then..think on..as fellars always seem to find it much easier, no TOTM and hormones to cope with.

I'm sending you a PM with tips etc to help you through. If ever you're tempted to have a fag.....look at your kiddies and think how much they need you..and you wsh to be around for THEM! :)

You CAN do it - and save yourself a fortune! Come and vent here whenever you wish, it will do you a power of good.

    All the best!

The way that I am looking at it is: Its like saying goodbye to a dear old friend. Fags have been with me through the worst of worse, and the best of best times, I have left the company of real friends on nights out to spend some quality time with my FAG in bus shelters out side the pubs etc, I am saying goodbye to Mr FAG before its too late and I am saying goodbye to my children/grandchildren. I am spending one last day with Mr Fag before I turn off his life support and he leave me for good :) if all that makes scenes? if not I know what I mean haha.

Oh, that makes perfect sense, downnotout, it's also how most of us view it. However, we soon realise that what we thought was the best friend is the worst , and, if we let it, could eventually quite possibly kill us or maybe make us so very ill.

Kick him right out of the door last thing tonight and imagine he lands in a HUGE spider's web...trapped forever!!!! :grinheart

Good advice to 166million, thank you.

Don't forget, everyone, you can start each day with the Quitters Pledge
    Quitters Pledge
"Today I promise not to smoke any cigarettes, tomorrow - if I wish - I may do."
Renew the pledge every morning on waking or any time in the day.
This helps in not making quitting feel as though you're planning something lifelong, it helps trick the mind in taking it all one day at a time. The lifelong part you determine for yourself when you're ready.

the image I have in my head is, throwing a reef into the sea, where my friend Mr FAG is being laid to rest :)
My OH just thinks that I have lost the plot a little. She can not really understand my obsession with giving up smoking, clearing the debts, and my being on this forum. She is more of a head in clouds type of girl, that only comes crashing to ground (reality) when things get really bad. I am still battling to get her FULLY on side with everything that is going on.

...and an excellent image to have, downnotout. :D

If your OH has never smoked then she can't really begin to understand your dilemma, even so, if nothing else you can ask her for support and hope she gives you that. At least 'let her in' so that she feels she just may be helping you.

Many folk haven't a clue how to help others (upbringing maybe), not really help; encourage her to learn now, even if it's only by hugs and cuddles to begin with accompanied by "you'll never know just how much this helps me through each day. Without your support I wouldn't be the guy I am today."

So. you're needing to be the strong one of the family financially too?!

Have you tried writing everything down? A sort of State Of Affairs of you all, right down to haircuts, Christmas/Birthday presents and every bit of your expenditure and income. If not then do one and leave it pinned to somewhere (maybe in the kitchen) so that she has time to read and fully digest it and the implications. Maybe she had it too easy going as a youngster and had no responsibilities so is bemused by it all now - until things become drastic.

You know, by writing down all this today that it's doing you so very much good, which is why JD & I say "come her and give vent". Keep letting it out rather than suppressing it all, each of us needs to be able to do that.

It sounds as though you have the world on your shoulders...but that, with letting off steam a little, you're doing a terrific job. :)

    Thinking of you all,
