I get flashbacks too. Main one is coming out of the supermarket after a weekly shop.

OH has come up with a new benefit to me quitting... he says I'm a safer driver! I always used to smoke while driving and he says I used to be too busy trying not to burn myself that I didn't concentrate on the road as much lol.

Since packing in, have you been behind someone smoking in their car?, i have at the lights and the smell was awful

I haven't had that but I've been sat in my back garden and smelt my neighbours fags!

    HI Sue-uu

its very encouraging reading the posts on here
i have stopped smoking now for 7 months 2 weeks and 29 min:j

i find it motivates me to have a download called silk quit on my computer it tells me exactly how long i have stayed stopped and how much healthier i am and how much i have saved financially

its a whoping £851 not sent and a shameful 2271 fags i would of smoked in that time

just the sheer image of all those fag packets lined up makes me now feel ill:o

its not an easy journey but if determined will suceed

i had stopped and started again several times but i think the important thing is to never stop trying and never think you will never enjoy life as a none smoker

its amazing how they can take over your life in so many ways

and how liberating it is not to smoke

after several weak attempts to stop i sat down and wrote all the things i could do if i didnt smoke, how much more time i would have
( not having to stop what i was doing for a fag break , going outside like a leper in the rain to have a smoke , smelling like an ashtray etc )
the pros outweigh the cons so i took the bull by the horns , stocked up with nice fruits i wouldnt normally afford, planned healthier eating ( ate very poorly before skipping meals etc )
i changed my routine initially so i didnt associate what i was doing with "fag time "

i am determined to stay stopped this time ,

if i can do it anyone can

    JD xx

Hi Sue, your diary has certainly been inspiring!

Just a quicky from me to say: I am soooooooooooo proud of you Jammy :T You kept me going many times :A and have actually helped me again tonight.

My quit is going true to form.....first 6 months, piece of cake.....up to a year, fine. After 1 year, starting to think about it.....coming up to 2 years, getting worse.
(This happened both times I stopped before)

My son will be leaving home soon and that little voice tells me - just for a millisecond: 'Oooh.....smokie time!!! :j'
Then realistic voice takes over again: 'NOOOOO, don't even want 1! :p'
(Secret smoker - only smoked when son was at Dad's / school / bed or when I was at work / out)

Difference this time is I DON'T WANT to smoke again...I truly don't - nor could I afford to!

With my other 2 quits I felt like I was missing out......I've realised this time that if I WAS smoking I'd be missing out and by NOT smoking I am gaining sooo much.

So although that little voice will keep trying to persuade me to smoke again there is no way I'm listening! :rotfl:

It is so worth trying to stop smoking - it really really IS!

Good to hear about the throat, Sal, and that your weight is staying pretty well managed. If we're careful then we can usually see it as it is, a temporary comfort, that we can soon be ditched. :) I noticed on the other thread that you said you'd put some on, but I'm sure your Wedding dress will keep you reined in to be radiant on the big day! :happylove

I have to agree with you, NickyBat, fag smoke soon smells disgusting, though on just the odd occasion I find it quite nice, but not often for sure. :(

Hi JD...it's so good to see you here and wonderful news on 7 & 1/2 months FREE!! :T:T I'm hoping to put the SQ link on soon, :) however, isn't it marvellous for urging you on to keep right on doing better, and just look at the savings you've made on your life and pocket!! I love your image of all the unsmoked fag packets stacked up - a great motivator though!

Keep us informed how you go, JD, you give such good advice too.

Hi DD :hello:it really is lovely to see you back with us again and...WOW..how well have you done!!!!! :T:T:T:T

    Very many congratulations!!!

It took some guts, but you proved yourself a worthy quitter and I'm quite sure, from all you've written above, you'll never go back - after all IF you were to, what would you start doing again? - that's right - quitting...all over again. :( What a thought eh?!!

The sound of that 'little voice'....or psychological Nic ....that goes on trying for a while to pull us back to his clutches (evil little .......) gets less and less the further away from us having that last fag; the reminder moments get more into seconds then flashes and then fade into oblivion too, I can truly vouch for that DD. I can now pick one up stare at it and say all sorts of nasty things that you'd never think possible...not be being a lady.

BTW, larmy16 was on a couple of weeks ago after having quit for THREE years!!!! :DHere's the link to her post.

I LOVE your final sentence, DD, it says it all to my mind. Please don't forget where we are, we need others to pass on good advice, just as JD does, you too on the other threads we've had. You're definitely a quitter now, DD, I can feel it in me bones. :grinheart

    Sue x

To all lurkers, if you've already stopped smoking - keep focused and stay strong - you CAN do it. To all those wondering if you could do it....give it a go, you have so much to gain and will lose nothing. :D

Hmm, can't say I've said it yet. All I say is it's been x weeks and x days. That is all for now! One day at a time.

Finished the first day of my new job today and really fancied one! But it has been nice not constantly thinking about the next fag break I'm gonna get! And nice knowing I'm not stinking out the office with my fag smell lol
 Been smoke free for 4 years!!
  • I gave up smoking over three years ago - I know I don't believe it but it was easy. Well not easy but certainly no where near as difficult as I thought.
Well three years on - yes, I had to check the time since its no longer even a thought that enters my head. Here's a post that I posted three years back - if it sounds a little arrogant it's not supposed to, rather I hope it encourages people.

Just remember I was you three years back - doubting, anxious and not believing I could do it.

Never posted in this section before - but just searched Allen Carr and this thread came up.

Just a little background - the reason I was searching Allen Carr was I listened to his audiobook six weeks back and gave up - YES it was that simple. None of the ... 'I'm trying to give up' ..... 'I haven't had a cigarette since.....' ...... just I gave up - its in the past tense and I know I'll never smoke again. I know that sounds stupid and arrogant but I am honestly positive I will never smoke again.
I've just finished some stressful exams a day back and had a little time on my hands and realised that I've never craved/needed a cigarette since finishing his book, so decided to have a look at others experiences of his method.

This is not meant to sound conceited in any way - I'm just astounded that it was as easy as it was and hope that it may help others too. I'd smoked for 25 years - between 10-20 most days.

I listened to Allen Carr's audiobook via an MP3 player while walking and followed the instructions and found it EASY to give up - virtually not one pang of withdrawal.

I would highly recommend it to others - disbelieving? Yes I was too - even am now - hence the search on his name.

TRY IT - ITS CALLED THE EASY WAY AND I CAN VOUCH FOR IT BEING THE EASY WAY.

Apologies for sounding a little Evangelical
