Royal Mail lost my recorded post - or not
edda
Track and trace is still not showing an item I posted via recorded mail over 3 weeks ago. This is now officially lost, but the company I sent it to says they have received it.
So it appears that Royal Mail has only lost the proof of delivery.
However, trying to find out what has happened is a nightmare. The receiving company has loads of post and I'm not sure if mine is there or not. Every time I ring Royal Mail, they say I need to speak to someone else: have phoned the local delivery offices for both where sent from and where sent to. Each says its the other one's responsibility.
If the package has been delivered, can I claim for cost of postage (paid for track and trace, which I haven't got)? Can I claim for cost of lots of phone calls?
Or just give up and try to avoid Royal Mail like the plague?

If you have the original slip with the tracking number on and a "value" on the other side, you can claim for that full value. Go into a post office and ask for a complaint form.0

Yes - I do still have the receipt. Will get down to the post office before the government closes it!0

Trying to understand this .. Royal mail have successfully delivered something but have not updated the tracking system .. surely if it has been confirmed at the other end as having been delivered the tracking is irrelevant? Why would you want to claim the cost of postage back?
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
This happens to my mail often - I regularly get sent recorded delivery items to my work address. As it's a large school the recorded delivery item is often just placed in the large blue bag along with the other mail by the postman so the little barcode bit on the envelope is not taken off. As this is not taken off and put on the postman's sheet and therefore it's not actually signed for it won't show on the track and trace system as having been delivered, even though it has!
Officially you can claim back £30.00 per undelivered item (unless you have specified a higher value).0 -
Like Ivan I can't quite see the problem.
Track & trace is often not kept up to date with recorded delivery.
Why are you making all these phone calls you're complaining about if the people you sent it to have told you they received it?
Or is it just that you are trying to defraud Royal Mail by claiming back the postage in the hope they won't realise it's actually been delivered?0 -
What you were paying for was delivery - you weren't really paying for track & trace as such, that's just a nice way of being able to see that it has been delivered. You know that it has been delivered so, given the recipient has confirmed receipt, you should be OK and not need to worry wasting your time in making telephone calls, writing letters of complaints, visiting the post office . . . .0

Got to agree with previous posters just what exactly are you trying to "claim" for the item has been delivered.Give it up lifes too short0

I'm upset that you think I'm trying to defraud Royal Mail - I wouldn't do anything like that.
There are 2 problems. First, I'm not sure the receiving company has got the item. They are large and get lots of post, so am waiting still for confirmation from them. Secondly, as there is a turnround time from when they got the item, I want to know if they are meeting their service level agreement. That's why I use track and trace.
If the item hasn't been delivered, I need to claim for the item cost.
If it has been delivered, I have paid extra for track and trace - but not got the service. I therefore want to claim for a refund of this cost and point out that srevioce was incomplete.
Okay - its not a lot, but if no one complains, Royal Mail will just carry on with a poor service.
I thought this forum was for advice - thanks to those of you who gave it.0 -
You did start your original post by saying that "the company I sent it to says they have received it". I think that's why many, including myself, had trouble seeing just what the problem was.I'm upset that you think I'm trying to defraud Royal Mail - I wouldn't do anything like that.

But you will see that I didn't accuse you of fraud, I was just trying to understand the question.
I think you need to wait till you get the confirmation you need from the recipient before taking this any further.0 -
When you send something recorded delivery you are paying the extra for signed for, otherwise you may as well just send standard post and save the money,in my opinion its royal mail that are defrauding the public by not giving us the service we have paid for,i sent 2 items recorded on 5th march,it is 11th march today just been on royal mail website and checked items had been delivered on both items it says come back later, now one item was a ebay item so if buyer says they never received i would then have to supply recorded detils to paypal who would consider the item lost, which means if buyer really did receive and was trying to pull a fast one, paypal would take their side as i basically have no proof this item was signed for and delivered,i know royal mail could vouch for me and say it was delivered but without the proof(WHICH I PAID FOR)its totally irrelevant, this is happening all to often now i have sent this year 7 recorded delivery items, and only 1 has been signed for.ROYAL MAIL GIVE US THE SERVICE WE PAY FOR!!:mad:0
