Why don't you just print your own postage labels, then you know you're getting what you've paid for?

Why are you sending recorded anyway? Do you that many losses that it is a valid decision.
Well I used to send by standard delivery in the past, but people now tend to rip off hard working individuals by claiming that it is "lost" or that they have not "received" the goods.
Recorded does show some proof, also the customer will have to sign for it.....0 -
I think this getting a little off topic. I am just furious because the counter staff member did not want to change it to 2nd class recorded, he refused a countless number of times......He could have changed it down to royal mail 2nd class as in the past his collegue tried but that one was changed, as I also caught him out. I am over it now, it was his wrong doing and I got nothing to be a shamed of.0

Unless of course you live in an area like mine where our posties never ever get a signature for recorded.
It is not worth the 95p frankly. I send approx 180 parcels a month and that would cost me £171 extra to use recorded and for no additional benefit at all.
It is also not 'easier' to make a claim for loss , the process is the same.
It gives me the peace of mind and proof of postage, the price increase of Royal Mail has really made a dent in me and others.
The post office seems more empty then ever, I have just found out my local delivery office is closing down and their building is up for sale. I am ecstatic......0 -
Also to add, the tracking ID's (Barcode) which Royal Mail provide via the post office 8/10 times do not work. I keep on getting this messeage :
The reference number does not use the correct format. Please check and try again.
Are royal mail responsible for this ? Or have the post office provided me with a false tracking ID. To be honest with you they no longer scan the recorded label and I am getting fed up their service....
I hope both Royal Mail and Post office staff are reading this.0 -

If you track it you will see it accepts the code and shows no tracking0 -

I am sorry it is not nonsense at all. I cannot provide with my customers Tracking ID, of course. But the post office is now giving out false tracking ID, which is nonsense. i am trying to post a screenshot but mse is not allowing me to do so.....0 -

Getting a signature doesn't always help. A company I work for used to send cheques by recorded delivery to a central processing place for the Bank of Scotland (they don't have any branches in England so I don't know why they started with them). The cheques were lost though signed for by a squiggle with the name "Tweed" entered under the signature (which is the name of the building, not a person). The company had too many employees for the ombudsman service (but were well under the limit for turnover) and finally settled some 8 months later I think for about half of what they'd lost (they were small dominination amounts that it was never going to be practical to get back from the customers).
Unlike the original poster though I'm lucky to have a really good Post Office locally that are very helpful (and very busy as a result). Why doesn't everyone run a business like that?
Have you considered recording your transaction on your phone so that you can get proof you are asking for second, being charged first and no good reason as to why? That would at least give you enough evidence to go to the local press and whoever give the Post Offices their licences if he still refused to pay back the difference.0 -

Tweed is a large BOS clearing centre in EH12 edinburgh.
The get a lot(though not as much as they used to) of mail.
Its a slightly different case to dispute something when you have proof of delivery0
