What was the weight? RM only do 2nd class recorded up to 750g. If it is heavier then it will go via 1st class.

Why are you complaining to Royal Mail because the Post Office have overcharged you?

Just to respond to a few questions, the weight of each item was very low, they were around 0.197 kg.......I.e these were handheld game cases....

Also I contacted both royal mail and the post office, for some reason when I complained to royal mail, they accepted......but when I rang post office complaints the put me through royal mail.

Also I thought the post office were a subsidiary of royal mail?

Anyway its in the past If it happens again I will take it personally

The way I see it, you've got 2 different complaints.

The first one being the post office charging you for 1st class when you've asked for 2nd. That's nowt to do with RM. Follow the link above for complaints about post office.

RM and PO are different companies. And yes if you want to complain about pricing then they will put you through to RM.

With regards to the squashed packets, if anything has been damaged then you would take that up with RM.

RM can't really tell PO staff off for over charging you.

Why are you sending recorded anyway? Do you that many losses that it is a valid decision.

I can vouch for sending recorded - if the OP is using paypal for receiving payments they both advise to send recorded as it is easier for the buyer to make a claim with RM, whereas if standard delivery is used then it usually falls back on to the seller as the buyer can claim a refund through paypal.

    not quite
RD simply proves the item didnt arrive(or didnt track)
RM offer the exact same level of compensation for RD and non RD mail.

You really need to think hard about this.

The cost of recorded delivery is 95p so if you are selling low value items you really need to decide whether the percentage of losses is high enough to warrant this extra expense. For every 100 items sent that is an extra £95 and if the item sells for £5 then you need to lose over 19 to make recorded worthwhile.

Having said all that tricky customers or known blackspots it might be worth sending recorded on an ad hoc basis.

Don't send recorded willy nilly work out the costs and benefits

Recorded or not, it's not the buyers responsibility to make a claim with RM. All the buyer has to do is claim a refund from the seller then the seller makes a claim.

Unless of course you live in an area like mine where our posties never ever get a signature for recorded.

It is not worth the 95p frankly. I send approx 180 parcels a month and that would cost me £171 extra to use recorded and for no additional benefit at all.

It is also not 'easier' to make a claim for loss , the process is the same.
