Have you worked out the price differential? Last time they tried this on me, the difference was barely 10p per item - the days of saving big on 2nd class are long gone!

Agreed it's a small difference. But it is still overcharging based on the service requested, and shouldn't be happening OR tolerated by customers.

This is an old post but hte problems continue at post office counters. Over the past 3 months I have requested the cheaper option on posting ( I am an Ebayer): on 4 occassions I was presented with a bill which, upon probing, was tfor 1st class mail. On one occassion, I asked infront of a crowded post office, if Royal Mail had a postive policy of charging the higher charge....there was a very uneasy atmosphere behinfd the counter....I am concerned that elderly people or less informed customers may not feel able to tackle staff...I do not intend to leave this matter here.

Yep, they simply don't have any customer care. Just interested in ripping off people. I sent a parcel via Next day guaranteed special delivery. I also sent it at 9am. But guess what ? It never got there the next day. After 2 days it managed to reach the destination. I have sent in another complaint and no response received as of yet. It has been over 3 weeks. I only used this method as the customer wanted it, otherwise I would have used a courier service.

So why use them? I switched to Collect + 2 years ago - vote with your wallet, I do!

I don't use them any more, only occasionally. For instance if it is a customer request that they want their item sent out via Royal Mail. I use myHermes among others. ;)
