Cat, dog and other pet hairs... Aggghhh

Please help, I'm ever hopeful that someone out there can help....

I have two adorable cats....but their fur gets EVERYWHERE, and I just don't seem to be able to get rid of it anymore.

I wash clothes etc and then have to defluff them when ironing/using them...

can anyone suggest anything that might help....

I have tried those green/pink balls that you can put in the washing machine....they have now been relegated to cats toys as they didn't work....

Plllleeeeaaassee help?!

Any ideas...

Thanks heaps

M

Reminds me of an old tag line:

"Of course those clothes are clean - the cat's sleeping on them isn't he?"

Groom the cats even more often than you do already to keep the shed hair down?

Don't let them in to the washing machine?

Don't let them kip on the laundry?

i can't help i'm afraid Murtle but i'd like help with the same thing as well please.

I've got 2 cats, one long haired and 1 short, and the short haired one is starting to malt everywhere at the moment, the long haired one still malts but it seems to come out in big clumps so you can at least just pick it up and throw it in the bin.

Not sure whether this would help your specific problems, but cat hairs (and dog hairs!) are easier to pick up with a rubber glove on - just rub your hand over the garment/carpet and the hairs stick to the glove.

Works better with the 'surgical' type gloves rather than marigolds! :)

  • Moulting cats can be a pain, I agree that brushing them can help but if you do still get the hair on your clothes sticky parcel tape solves the problem, it's much cheaper and quicker than sellotape

I have to use celotape on my clothes every morning to get the fur off!

We have a furbaby who is very furry!

I can empathise - what I do, is

    a) restrict his movements - ie: he is not allowed in the kids room/dh's room/bathroom/utility room (where the dubious delights of laundry/ironing take place)

    b) parcel tape as per a.p.'s suggestion

    c) the boys groom him twice a day (d10yo does morning duty; d9yo afternoon duty)

    d) this may sound daft, but I "air" the rooms he uses every morning and evening. seems to work for us :D

My two cats moult a fair bit and I use a damp cloth on the settee and chairs to clear up the excess hairs and cello tape ( I bulk buy it where I can) to clean up the clothes. I agree that regular grooming does help (if they allow it and do it outdoors if you can)

stroking the cats with a surgical rubber glove on/a damp hand pulls out lots of the loose hairs and then you can bin them before they end up on your clothes/furniture/carpet.

I used to "hoover" my Doberman  Do you have a soft brush attachment to your hoover that you could use on your cat? My cat isn't phased by the hoover .... I'll give it a trial run for you and let you know

Mr Pennywise tried hoovering the cats a few months ago - they didn't like it - but i think that is because he had taken the attachment off the end of the tube and the power was turned right up :o
