I think in Mag Answer's case the use of the TMs on site is probably where they'd have the strongest case. They rank for the TMs in Google and that's why I'm guessing they've been picked off.

The rest of the legal stuff is a bit debatable - the trouble is debating it legally isn't cheap. You can gamble that it's just a threat and hold your ground or you can concede or you can chuck money at it. Sadly the legal system allows big firms to scare the bejeebers out of folk.

Personally, instead of a heavy handed approach, I think the mags would be better off creating a system of entry where you need a unique code from within the publication to enter online.

Anyway - it's now a case of sit back and see what happens.

Some of you will have been aware of Michael and Marina's Magazine Answer site. Over however many years they've posted up answers to TAB, Chat and puzzle magazines on their site.

Yesterday the site closed - due to receiving a legal threat from the publishers of the magazines. They're unhappy about TM infringement, copyright, answers being posted etc.

I've had a short FB conversation with Michael and feel sorry for the guys because it's a heavy handed action. Some elements of the argument (TM area) are possibly valid, others I feel are questionable. Unfortunately to question them would involve a lot of stress and £££'s - and so Marina and Michael have agreed to close the site.

We obviously wish them all the best!

As for Loquax, as yet we've not heard from anyone. That's not to say we will or that we won't. Personally I don't think posting answers is infringement, we're a closed forum so are not using their brands to generate traffic, nor do we advertise as offering such answers. But you never know!

To those that post the answers for these publications then my personal advice would be that it might be best to consider stopping. I don't think you'd be personally liable if you continued (we'd be the ones who got chased up).

So, if you don't see answers to some publications on Loquax in the future - then this probably will be why. In the mean time it's a case of sit and see what transpires.

My view is that if TAB etc are losing revenue due to answer sharing then (imo) spending money on a solution (e.g. make each mag have a unique code) would be better value than spending it on lawyers.

Hi going to give comps a go now and have entered about 50 yesterday, can some of you guys give me an idea of how many you enter a week please, I know its all luck of the draw, but do you have many regular wins thanks:)

I think that's exactly the case :cool:

And I don't blame Marina & Michael (or you) for taking the safe option.

Or making the mag attractive enough that people would buy it for the articles

Surely the sales loss is only from people who would either a) only buy the mag for the competitions or b) choose that mag over any other mag because of the competitions. How many people do we think that is? The first group will include hardened compers who are sharing now. The second group can be attracted by exclusives, giveaways or just better writing.

To be honest, if I didn't see the answers here; I wouldn't be entering. I occasionally pick up a discarded mag in the canteen and see if there's a comp to do but I wouldn't buy them to read so they won't get any more money from me by changing policy.

Why wont facebook let me like any pages? When I click on the like button it lets me like it for about 1 second and then takes the like off. Does anyone know what is going on? Is this why I am not winning at the moment lol

I have looked around in the competition section and even searched but can't find for Issue 7 July 2012 of take a break's take a puzzle magazine.

I have done the puzzles but use the threads to check the answers for other take a break mag comps.

Don't suppose anyone would know where the thread would be?

I have just posted it. T-A-B didn't put the entry forms online for all 5 mags that came out on 14/06 until just now.
