Hips displasia/arthritis - may be a time for the op....

Hugs and licks from my two for Zara! They were raiding my bin during the night, obviously to find something suitable revolting to send to her as a 'Get Well Soon' present!0
-
Tyson sends his get well barks too.
He wasn't far off being in a similar position himself, only it turns out his problems aren't his hips after all. I can't decide whether to think the vets were after a bit of money, or whether they genuinely thought he had hip problems.
I hope the cats take good care of her!0 -
Katy - so what IS wrong with Tyson then? For long time you thought /were told it was his hips, isnt't it?

Noticed swollen ankle on Zara today, half a day on the phone to the vets later and here she is modelling her ice socks. She has 2 socks on the foot/ankle and in betweek the 2 socks - ice cubes. I could not work the ice/towel around her ankle so got my own solution...0 -
Aww poor Zara. Remember if you use ice to have a barrier (ie a towel) or it could burn her skin. Maybe get a couple of ice packs from a sports shop and tape them round/use the socks?
edit - I see you have her wearing multiple socks, so 'apologies' for the unneeded advice!0 -
Bless her. I hurt my knee the other month and my solution for icing it was to get some hand towels wet and freeze them. Once frozen I could wrap them around my knee, held in place with a neoprene knee support. Was easier than holding a bag of peas in place! They'd warm up fairly quickly but didn't really drip too much as it was only however much water the towel would hold anyway.0

I don't think I ever updated my post about it...
Took him to see a chiropractor (apparently one of the best in the country) as his girlfriend was going about her leg and we thought we would make it a double date.
She clicked him about and said that basically one of his back paws has been broken at some point, and hasn't set properly so his toes are frozen in place. It means he puts his foot down slightly oddly, which then when he does a lot of exercise or he lands on it wrongly puts strain on his hips which will eventually make them sore and 'sticky'.
He has been going monthly now for 3 months and hasn't had any hip problems at all.
He has also stopped all his medication from the vets.
I wasn't really sure how much to believe initially, but you can see his toes on that paw do look odd. And having been on no meds with no problems is proof enough for me.
I have been able to alter his exercise too now I know what to look out for, so I think it is going to be something we can manage with monthly visits to get him clicked.
I am also happier now he is not on medication for life!0 -
