  • GR something just sprung to mind & I'm being nosy :o

Someone I know was talking about getting their dog hip / elbow scored & eye tested (prior to breeding) - and I know what Maisie's are (as she was done before she had her pups) ...... anyway

When Zara's hips were x-rayed / tests were done - were you given a hip score at all as part of the diagnosis?

Just wondering if you were, how high up the score they were.......

Sorry but im a bit worried about this post. You said last week vet advised that she could go on a flexi lead in 2-3 weeks but you took her out for 40 mins? today?
I know its tempting to get her out but you can do damage by doing too much too soon.
I work with dogs and if we have one have a op like that we build up exercise very slowly ie from 5 mins for a week to 10 the next 15 the next etc ect.
Dont want to moan but would hate for you to have problems with her because you have been impatient.

She is allowed 40 min walk 3 times per day.

And yes, it was built up from 5 min oer week adding 5 min every week.

Where we were walking - nobody else around and it was a nice slow walk. It is not like she was running around on a flexi lead ;)

:)Well thats ok then, its far more than our dogs would be allowed at her stage. most would have six weeks cage rest then 5 mins walk 2 x daily for a week building up 5 mins a week. 40 mins 3 x a day is a lot for her stage and I really would not be letting her jump on and off furniture either, but if your vet oks it then its ok.

Well, following FR advice - she was on 5 min in the first week of her cage rest, 10 min in the second week etc etc.

Her cage rest was 6 weeks, it is her first week out of the cage but the walks started straight after the op - from 5 min 3 times per day increasing by 5 min each week so we really should be on 35 min now not 40 - just realised.

But on her 6 week check up (last Monday) we aere told 40 min 3 times per day is fine for her now.

She has no muscle wastage to speak of (some dogs do following long "cage rest") and all xrays were fine...

Ufff - it was long 6 weeks.. another 5.5 before she can have a little run off the lead...

Oh re sofas - mine are very low and spoke to the vet about them too.. all under control and following vets' advice...

    But thanks for your concern...

We have another op to (not) look forward to in November.....

Zara - great. The bump I worried about turned out to be her hip bone LOL

George - no need for surgery but poor cat has arthritis and was told to give him glucosamine.

Zara, no more sling. On lead for anothher 6 weeks but in 2-3 weeks can go out on flexi. No need for hydrotherapy as he muscles are fine.

    :D

Roll on another 6 weeks wohooooo biggrin.gif

Thats great if vets are happy with her, just was a little confused as you said the other day it would be two to three weeks before she could go on flexi.
Im sure you are doing whats best for her, I only worry as I have seen things go wrong. hard as it is not to over do things I would be carefull with how much exercise she gets at this stage.
I will butt out now but hope she continues to recover well.
