garage bill advice

Very difficult, in your shoes i would want the old fuel pump refitting and then pay for them for their time.
However that probably won't happen as i doubt they will be able to return the pump now its been fitted.
I understand how frustrating this must be for you OP, i wouldn't be too chuffed either.
However i think this is how things will increasingly turn out with new vehicles out of warranty, we as buyers have bought into this *computerised vehicle age*, unfortunately increasingly these vehicles whilst reliable on the whole can be very hard to diagnose properly without ending up...as in this case..simply throwing new parts at it till its fixed.
My sons company had a Vauxhall Astra van that the dealership couldn't be sure needed either a fuel pump or new ECU, the costs of both of which far outweighed the vehicles current value, can't remember quite what happened to the van, even vauxhall couldn't fix it, what hope anyone else.
We have reached the point now where we have almost disposable vehicles, once something like this happens it might be more cost effective to replace...only that encourages them to make the vehicles even more disposable.
With vans of course you are in catch 22 situation, you can't run an older simpler more reliable vehicle inside the M25...no doubt that will expand to other areas.
Wish the best of luck with this OP, no help at all i'm afraid though, sorry.
**not as we had any choice in the matter, but some vehicles whilst not as sexy are virtually unchanged, thinking Toyota Hiace here, my sort of van that, wasn't broke so they didn't fix it.
edit...the only advice i could offer is to use a recommended (taxi owners would know where) specialists Diesel workshops for such things, modern vehicles are now beyond the normal garage for all but regular servicing and normal, clutch etc type repair work.0 -

I'd be guessing it must be the DPF filter if it's costing £900. A fuel pump would be a fraction of that cost.0 -

Don't worry about the law at this stage, just talk to the garage and see what you can agree/negotiate.
Worst case scenario is that the garage will not release your car without you settling their bill. If this is the case and you are not entirely happy with the bill then mark the bill as 'Paid under Protest' and stop off at the local solicitors for independent legal advice on the way home

There is a lot more discussion, and a more in depth story, on the OP's other thread.
Yes, I asked that days ago, but the OP appears to have overlooked that question. How much are they asking for?0 -
With the history on the other thread, I wouldn't be happy paying if they hadn't fixed it. It does surprise me if they know fuels going into the pump, but won't come out. That's fairly specific, and either it's the pump, or the immobiliser. There isn't much else in there. Could even be the original pump sheared the drive shaft, and the second pumped isn't coded to the ecu, but it can't be rocket science to get fuel though one eventually.0

The trouble with "main dealers" is often they do not have a mechanic in the place, they have fast fit bolt on part technicians with a code reader.
The days were the main dealer had "the knowledge" are long over.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
If the OP gave go ahead for the garage to try and diagnose and change parts then he hasnt got a leg to stand on or a car seat to sit on until he pays the bill if they draw a blank after using all their expertise
the detail is in the garage terms and conditions that will be clearly displayed on their property
