Had another NSD today so only 1 left to go to hit my target of 20, which was ambitious but I very well may do it. Really depends on the weather tomorrow as if its nice DS and DDIL2B are taking the little ones down the beach. However if its horrid DGD1 will stay with me for the day and we may just have to go out to find something exciting for her to do to get over the disappointment of no beach.

I went into work at lunch time and finished off the urgent task so only had to leave a small but important part of it for my colleague to do. Worked for 2 1/2 hrs and now can relax for 15 days of no work - bliss.

Forget to tell you all that I did those reports following my trip the week before last and then emailed boss to say they were there and ask him if he could possibly give them a glance. At first he said he wouldn't have time but Thursday morning I had a phone call from him saying "excellent work" and only a slight amend and they could be submitted. So pleased to get them done and dusted before transfer to new boss.

Also had my expenses claim approved and saw email today to say its been paid, so just waiting for funds to clear in my account now.

Went to see DGDs after finished work and DGD1 ran to get her shoes immediately, all excited asking if she could stay tonight. Stayed to chat for a bit and DGD2 was really happy to see me. She stole my shoes and then when I was leaving shouted at me to find her shoes too. Oh I felt such a nasty Granny as she wasn't coming, it was already 4.30 by then and her mum likes her home by 6 to settle her before bed. She howled when I said see you tomorrow and kept saying "Up Gr now" over and over. She waved to her mum and grabbed her shoes. It was pitiful. Will make it up to her tomorrow if weather bad.

Had a nice evening with DGD1, with OH coming home at 6.30 and seemingly in an ok mood. Very tired though and insisted on turning her cartoons off so he could put Olympics on. She soon settled down to play beads, cards and stickers though. Had a nice cuddle at bedtime with a story and then she went to sleep like a lamb, listening to her cds.

I've tried telling her not to get me up before 7am but I doubt that'll work. So I'm in bed early. I love being woken up to her smiley happy pretty face anyway.

    Night all, chat tomorrow

Aw bless her!! I'm sure you will make it up to her tomorrow. It's the downside of being such a fab Granny.

Your DGC are very lucky to have a granny like you. My mum (DS's grandma) was always very reluctant to spend any time with them. My dad used to practically have to force her even though she said she loved her grandchildren very much. She never once offered to babysit them and in fact when mum and dad divorced, it was dad who would babysit for them.

Even when she flew half way around the world to see us, she never offered and by this time they didn't really need any looking after. :(

Oops sorry Granny I seem to have rattled on a bit there.

  • yes i agree with BoF :) your grandkids are very lucky to have you! My grandma (now not with us rip) would only have us over when forced to. She'd sit us in the front room and make us watch rubbish old re-runs with her, she'd chain smoke in front of us (my chest has never been good) and then get me to go make the tea for everyone (my mum found me at the age of 5 making tea for her once and went rightly mad at her!!! she promised not to do it again but she did!)

I would have loved a grandma like you, although saying that my other nanny was lovely :) but she worked full time until i was too old to be bothered to go and see nanny :o (naughty dfw- was around 17 though, pub was more alluring!)

I haven't seen the macca thing yet, was in bed by then! Saw the queen jumping from the plane ;) she was so grumpy though everytime the camera went to her she looked like she had my 3 old's face on when throwing a tantrum!!!

You rattle on all you want my lovely. I had a similar situation with my DM, rarely wanted to be Granny to my DS, although fell over herself to do things for DD. She would fly half way round the world to see DD if necessary but may not even attend DS wedding. Strange to be like that, I think being Granny is the best thing in the world, even when told at 6am, "oh Granny I missed the 7, its 9 now"

My DGM was the same and would bring her own cakes for her and my DGF to eat because she knew my DM couldn't afford them! However, she would only bring enough for her and my DGF and my poor DM would have to try to find something nice for her tribe of 4 not for us to do without. Her DM passed away when she was 17 so its hardly surprising she never knew how to be a proper DGM.

Poor Queenie, she was brought up to be told you don't show emotion in public and so has to have her serious face on all the time. It does mean she looks grumpy unfortunately but probably better than having her smiling at inappropriate times. :D

Hope you both have a good day x

    Funny for today:

Watching her DM as she tried on her new fur coat, DD said unhappily, "DM, do you realize some poor dumb beast suffered so you could have that?" The woman shot her an angry look, "DD, how dare you talk about your DF like that!"

Had my final NSD of the month yesterday so hit my target which I'm pretty pleased at as it was ambitious.

Not going to have one today as going to have hair done, having just balanced my books for the month  Wasn't sure if I could afford it as giving DS £300 today for wedding deposit but have decided can just about do it. :j

Does leave me with a very tight month of approx £100 to last the month after all DD/SO are paid and have to get petrol from that :eek:

We are going away on Thurs for 8 days and it is OH birthday on Sat but I've planned for that already. If things get too tight I'm going to ask OH to help a bit as he had awesome pay this month and it really isn't fair that he gets to dictate where it goes whilst I struggle. :(

Haven't decided on a target for NSD next month as I'll have to have as many as possible to eek out my money for as long as possible. Still nothing quite like a challenge to get me motivated. ;)

Yesterday was spent in the house ironing and watching films on Sky, once DGD left. Her DM, DF and DGD2 came over at 10am and then they went off to the beach for the day. Very overcast day but warm so I think they enjoyed. 1st time DGD2 has been that she'd remember anyway and she looked at serious when helping her DM to make sandcastles, from the photos I saw. :T

Made fish and chips for tea and I so enjoyed them but the smoke alarm battery decided to conk out and spent the night bipping away at me. In the end I took it out, (its an electric one so still works), the battery is just for back up.

Anyway must stir my stumps as got a few things to do this morning before hair appointment.

  • Well done on hitting your NSD target! :j I think you deserve getting your hair appointment after all the hard work you've put in this month. I'm sure you'll get through this next month too.

Glad DGD enjoyed the beach. I can't wait for the weather to warm up a bit so we can head over to the coast. I love the sound of the ocean.

Thanks BOF, it didn't happen though. :(

I drove into town, still not really sure whether I should be spending this money or not only to find the salon closed. No sign of life and no sign in the window. Rang the number and was told I should have received a phone call 2 weeks ago as they'd had to close due to refurbishments. Was quite cross, despite feeling slightly relieved that I wasn't now spending this money. It is the 2nd time this salon has done this to me and I'm wondering now whether to give them a 3rd chance. I loved my hair last time they did it and they gave me a great price, which they seem to be honouring each time I go, (well when they are not closed that is). ;)

I think I will give them another chance, but won't happen before my hols, and will make sure that next time I ring up the day before to check all is ok. Never had to do this before, pretty bizarre situation really. My hair doesn't desperately need doing and I only booked it because of my hols, so may not book it now for 6 weeks. :money:

So instead, I went to Mr T and purchased hair dye. As I am blondish at the moment, I purchased a similar blonde shade, hoping it just adds to my current highlights. :money:

Somehow some reduced iced slices jumped into my basket as well and I just had to eat them. Got OH a bar of chocolate from DGDs, I've got him a book on Hadrian's wall, a map of the area, (which he's already had), a shirt and some aftershave.

I spent the afternoon ironing things that have sat at the bottom of the basket for ages and now do not have a single item to iron in the house. :T

Rang the lady who's cottage we are borrowing from Friday and she told me if we want to go up tomorrow we can as the cottage is free. I'm gutted as I've booked a hotel in Leamington Spa for Thursday night and now didn't need to. I can't cancel it either as its non-refundable. Will speak to OH and see what he wants to do. Ideally we would move the hotel to Sat 11th and go to the cottage tomorrow/Thurs instead. I may try to get it moved, feigning ill-health, I'm still coughing well so wouldn't be too hard to do, and hope the hotel is sympathetic.

Still haven't decided how many NSD to go for next month.

Called into DS and paid deposit for his wedding. I only gave £250 in the end as they had £250 as well. Going to try to give them another £100 at the end of Aug and the rest at the end of Sept. Should just about do it and I'm quite pleased with myself for that.

DGD2 cried again when I left as she wanted to come with me, 2nd time this week I've felt like horrid Granny. Nice feeling that she wants to come with me though, does that make me an even worse Granny?

Anyway, trying to decide what to have for tea and then going to colour my hair. Not really hungry, something to do with iced slices I think. :D As for hair, fingers crossed it goes well.

I always wanted to go everywhere with my Grandma. It's a compliment and so cute, just lovely.

That is crap customer service at the salon I have to say. TBH with the advanced way they make home hair colour I bet it blends in with what you have no problem.
