Thanks all, I will ring his secretary tomorrow and see what happens but don't think she's actually in charge of the appointments. He's an nhs surgeon as well as private and she's his secretary for nhs. She types up his notes and then refers them to patient booking at the private hospital.

When I ring her I'll try to get information as to how it works and do my best to get a cancellation.

I'm gutted that it hasn't worked the way everyone said it would as I'd really built my hopes up. Worried now that it's going to affect our holiday as OH has spent a fair bit on it and as it's all booked separately will lose money if we have to cancel. It's a big birthday so I'll also be disappointed.

I've been warned that I can't defer the op so have to go with the date offered or go back to the nhs. I really don't want to do that as this consultant was much more thorough and said he'll do the op I want rather than the smaller one first and then maybe the other at a later date.

Fingers crossed it all goes well when I speak to her tomorrow

Granny, ask the nhs secretary for the number of the private secretary, and keep ringing to ask for a cancellation. It's not really on that you can't defer the op, and you'd be as well to talk to the health insurance people about that statement.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

I've got the number for the private booking person but she can't do anything until his secretary types up and refers his notes to her. Secretary said she should have them ready tomorrow so if I ring and give her my dates she will include them in my notes. I can also add that I am available for a short notice op.

private health care is a charity so terms of acceptance is op can't be deferred. They will only treat if nhs waiting times are too long and waiting is affecting quality of life. Their aim is to get the op done within 8 weeks of referral so as it's already been 2 weeks I thought it was going to be 6 weeks at the most. Will push for this when I ring private booking person. Everyone I know who has used this service have been seen quickly and so I thought I'd be the same. Kicking myself now that I didn't ask him yesterday why the delay but I was so gutted I just wanted to get out of there before I cried. Silly moo.

oh well hopefully I will get somewhere tomorrow

Funny that this is post 2,000 of my diary and it's a good one.

Thank you my dear friends the crossed fingers worked, I have a date and it's less than a month away and more than a month before our holiday. :j :j

I am so pleased and pretty proud of myself too plus a bit nervous obviously.

I rang his secretary as planned only to be told that she'd had to leave early and wouldn't be back until Monday. Rather than accept that I rang the private booking person and explained the problem and she said she'd see what she could do.

She checked my file and said that I would breach the insurance terms if not booked in before 7th March and as I was going away for such a special birthday would obviously want to be treated sooner rather than later so she checked his diary and penciled me in for the 17th Feb. She had spent the day booking people into the fortnight before which is a bit frustrating but I'm not complaining as I now have a date and time to build my fitness/health up before hand.

The only reason I won't go in on that date is if I've misunderstood and don't actually need an operation. I laughed and said I wish that was the case but sadly not so she said I am definitely booked in for that date and will get a letter to confirm.

I am so relieved I cannot begin to describe and haven't stopped smiling since putting the phone down. I'm seeing my GP on Friday and will discuss going off before hand just to ensure I'm in the best physical and mental state possible
