No you can't use your old key from the other car. or the one that cane with it but some key cutters or most auto locksmiths will be able to copy your key inc the chip. the remotes are a manual program.

If you need help finding someone tell me where you are I should be able to point you in the right direction.

i have had similar problems ie lost remote key. i need help finding someone in the cambridge area so could you please point me in the right direction? thank you.

  • The downside of this is that the imobiliser is now useless. Only really anygood when you get into banger teritory.

If you do this you need to let your insurance company know that you have rendered the immobiliser useless

Ford stopped using the red master key system on mondeo's around 1998 - 1999

    Focus's never had master keys

if it's lost keys then your best bet is always with an auto locksmith as they are so much faster and less expensive than the dealerships
  • I just used this to reprogram my spare key which had appeared dead due to not being used for 5yrs or so. I initially thought the battery had gone so I wasted £3.50 getting a new battery. Probably not needed so attempt the instructions on the 1st mirez link, earlier in this thread, before gettin a new battery, if you have a similar problem

As mentioned in an article earlier, by Gorgeous George, these instructions allow you to program 1,2 or 3 extra keys to the one you already have/use.

I found, with my car, that 3 or 4 quick turns from 0 to II on the ignition barrel engaged the "learning" mode. I then pressed the lock function on both keys & then turned the ignition back on to II & hey presto all in good working order.

I'm now gonna take my time searching for a cheap, new key & transponder so that I don't have to worry about this again!

Hope this was helpful to anyone else in a similar position.

Its in the handbook. Coding the remote key and the technique to code the keys for the immobiliser.

    On a MK3 mondeo 2000 - 2007 you need 2 unique working keys.

Also freely available on many websites or you can buy it from many ebay sellers who are selling secrets
they dont want you to know or similar sales speil.

Most of its in the handbook or freely available on the ford forums.

Hello, just joined today after purchasing my first Ford, a very tidy X Reg Mondeo LX Estate.
Very please with the car so far other than the central locking key fob as it does not lock/unlock the car and this can only be done by inserting the key - not the end of the world but.....
I have read various methods of trying to re-program the key to the CL System however that does not seem to work, replace the CR2032 Battery with a new one and still no joy.
The key fob has 3 buttons on it, Lock, Unlock and Boot, comes apart in two sections.

I am hoping maybe one of you guy's can help me and make sure I have followed the programing sequence correctly please?

    Best Regards

    Rob.

    X reg MK2 or MK3 ?

MK2 and MK3 fobs look the same but i think early MK2 ones are not compatible with the MK3. ?

Get someone with a known good fob to check to ses if its faulty. Most likely the fob the rest of the system is quite reliable, Except the drivers door module that is.

what procedure are you following? 2 different ones, One for the PATS immobiliser and one for the fob.

Hi and thanks for your reply. Its the new style on an X Reg so from what I gather it is a MKIII.
Ignition on, off 4 times then the dash tone sounds. When this tone sounds I press the unlock button on the fob and the dash should sound again to confirm but it does not.

    Cheers.

Try the other buttons, Check the battery connections and the button connections. If that doesnt work a new remote maybe needed.

  • I have been reading these posts and couldn't believe that it could be as easy as buying a blank key off ebay and reprogramming it myself. I lost my remote key but thankfully had the proper spare. I tried to get a replacement at a key shop and was going to be relieved of over £100. I decided to risk £16 on ebay and see if it really could work. Well, key just arrived in the post, I popped out to the car to see if it would be as easy as written here and oh my goodness I am the happiest money saver ever today. I couldn't find the instructions in the manual (too impatient to look properly me thinks). I decided to turn the key from 1 to 2 quickly a few times until the beep described happened, true as bob, a few turns on and the dash beeped at me. I pushed the 'unlock' button on the new key and hey presto, all sorted. I didn't believe it till I got back out the car and tried the remote. No need for two keys, no need for expensive rip offs and my pocket is significantly heavier than it would have been. Thanks you so much MSE users for sharing your wisdom, you are my heros. If you dont think you are clever enough, or are reading this thinking its too good to be true (normally if it looks too good to be true it really is) it really isnt. It works and is remarkably easy to do.:T:kisses3::kisses3:
  • I think I now understand my situation now, from this thread.

I've lost the 3-button remote locking key for my Y-Reg Ford Focus - but I have a fully functioning spare - it just isn't a remote control one, it needs to be put into the car lock. It sounds like I can buy a new 3-button key for not silly-money and that I can then get this cut and programme it to work with the central locking myself. BUT - I can't programme it for the immobiliser - so when I put it into the ignition it won't work.

Are there any places (pref near Hertfordshire / North London where I can get a key programmed to work with the immobiliser for less than what the dealer will charge? Thanks in advance for any responses.
