you can buy a non ford seperate central locking plip about £50 which you prog your self quite easy but did ford tell you as soon as you take your key out of the ignition all new cars will immobilise themselves untill the correct key is inserted back in to the ignition???? since 1994 ??
this is 100%acurate as i sell ford keys[ non remote ] but will start the car as long as i have a key too copy £45 stuff ford want to know more
email keyman1963@hotmail.co.uk hope this info is usefull pass it on
I got a key fob from ebay for a tanner and a programmed key for £45 from keyman1963. Saved £115 compared to Ford dealers. Thanks Chris for all your help.0 -
So, let me get this straight. It is possible to cut and re-program a remote key (bought off Ebay) yourself without having to go to Ford. But this is only possible if you have 2 other keys (not necessarily remote) with the coloured data-chip thing in?
As I only have 1 other key, could I not get a duplicate of this made by someone substantially cheaper than Ford (easy enough for the chip to be duplicated?) and then purchase a remote key off Ebay and program this myself as I would then have 2 keys?
I realise its a drawn out way to save some money, but the thought of handing over £140 to Ford when they only supplied my 2 keys in the first place kinda gets my goat!

Hi,
Ford C-Max 2006 1.8 TDCI Zetec.
On Wednesday I lost the main key, the one with the remote for locking and unlocking. So I started to use the spare key, no remote. The car would sound the alarm but once the key was in the ignition alarm would stop.
No time to get to a Ford dealer to get a new key, as I had to go up to Aviemore this weekend. So just put up with the alarm.
Then Friday evening could not find the spare key. 2nd key lost, no keys. Locked out of the car. 3 hour drive away from home.
The other problem is that I do not know the key number. The car was bought 2nd hand from a ford dealer. They did not give me the tag that came with the keys originally with the key number.
Spoke to a local Ford dealer to my home town, they quoted me 600GBP or more. Saying that all the locks would need to be replaced, including ignition. They would need to breack into the car. This garage has a reputation. Phoned the garage that I bought the car from, they quoted 160-200GBP. They said they would have to dismantle the lock barrel to read the key number.
Gave up searching for the key all over Aviemore, and called in the recovery people. They sent out Ross Garages of Inverness. They gained entry to the car by forced entry by using skeleton keys. They could not get the steering lock off though. They said that a Ford Dealer should be able to find out the key number by the chassis number, as Ford will have a record.
My question is who is correct?
Can Ford tell me the key number by knowing the chassis number?
As I could start the car with the spare keep, before I lost it. Does this mean the mobiliser has not been set? I think I have never been putting the double lock on, as I have always been locking it by one press, instead of 2 with a 3 second delay
How can I get a key that works with my C-Max? Can Ford find out my key number and supply a key with remote locking, and also a spare key?
The key I had is the key second one down on the right hand column of page 87 of the owners hand book (en RHD 08/2005).
Can anyone clarify my situation.

As above, you an buy blank physical Ford keys quite cheaply on eBay. If you have another key, any key cutting place should now be able to cut the new key to match. If not, then you will have to go to Ford, who will know the key profile from the car's VIN.
The new remote control bit of the key can then be programmed into your car's remote central locking system. This involves switching the system into "learning mode", then pressing a button on the key to "teach" it's code to the car's system.
However, be aware that there are numerous different ways of doing this.
For info', this is my car's procedure ...
There are various procedures for doing this, possibly as a security measure. The one on Mirez’s website, http://www.mirez.co.uk, didn’t work on my car, but it might work for yours, though. Fortunately, the following one, from Mad Mole’s website, http://www.btinternet.com/~madmole, did work on mine. For the record, my car is a 1997 P-registration early Mk.2 1.8 LX hatchback. Mirez, Mad Mole and I are all old members of the online Mondeo Enthusiasts Group, on http://www.fordmondeo.org, another excellent source of information.
The procedure I used was as follows …
· Put the remote key in the ignition switch, turn it to position 3 and wait for the red LED in the clock or trip computer to go out.
· Very rapidly, switch from position 3 to position 2 four times, ie. 3 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 2.You should end up in position 2. The LED should now be on permanently, indicating that the car’s remote central locking system is in “learning mode”.
(Unfortunately, the LED seems to also do this if you get the sequence wrong and the car’s remote central locking system isn’t in “learning mode”.)
· With the remote key still in the ignition switch and while the LED is still on permanently, press and hold down the “Unlock Door” button on the remote key for 5 seconds.
· The LED should now flash off 4 times to signal that the key’s code has been received and accepted.
· Remove the key from the ignition switch.
· Wait a few seconds for the LED to start flashing.
· Test the operation of the key.
Then, the key's transponder chip will have to be programmed into the immobiliser system (aka PATS = Passive Anti-Theft System). I've never had to do this, but it's the same basic procedure. Switch the system to "learning mode" with an existing key, and then do things with the ignition switch with the new key in the lock (and within range of the chip reader) to teach it's code to the system. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Hmm lot of good info on here and as I have just bought a 2003 Mondeo with only one key, (A remote locking one with the transponder on it...not the 'Master' key with a coloured patch on it?) I do have the master key from my other Mondeo...now written off and wondered if this could be used at all via the coding system or not....any ideas?
I realise this key is coded for a now written off car but could I 'code' it for use in my new car?0 -

No you can't use your old key from the other car. or the one that cane with it but some key cutters or most auto locksmiths will be able to copy your key inc the chip. the remotes are a manual program.
If you need help finding someone tell me where you are I should be able to point you in the right direction.0 -

Hello, first post and I'm already hijacking a thread!
I have just purchased a 2005 Mondeo Ghia with only 1 key. If what you're offering is a (cheaper) way of getting a 2nd that can start the car as well as remote lock/unlock then I'd be most grateful. I'm in East London.
Many thanks for any help,

I have another solution which is cheap but only really suitable for old bangers past the point of being worth stealing.
The key has two parts, the fob that opens the doors and the key and transponder that start the engine.
As long as you have one key that starts the car you can programme additional fobs to open the doors, instructions can be found by searching the internet.
This won't start the car as the transponder in the key needs to be programmed to the car.
If you have one working key either fix this to the ignition barrel under the steering column cowl or remove the transponder chip and do the same. You might need to remove the sensing ring from the igntion barrel and put the key inthe middle of it.
I have seen this done and as long as the sensing ring detects the transponder chip then ay key that can turn the barrel will start the car. (or any toe-rag that can break the lock and turn it with a screwdriver!)
The downside of this is that the imobiliser is now useless. Only really anygood when you get into banger teritory.I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling0
