My speed test varies according to which site I use, however the most consistent tests, done several times over an hour or so, give me a speed of around 2.7MB download and around 300Kb upload.

I have not had any dealings with orange, but did you see watchdog a few weeks back? Orange was the worst complained about broadband provider - or not provider in many cases, and those who were connected reported that it was very slow and unreliable.
I don't think I personally would consider them but there may be that there are some orange customers out there who know different.

I am already an Orange customer. I was with freeserve which then became wanadoo and then were bought by Orange. It's true that under Orange the service has decline, and sometimes my bb connection is out for several hours. That is all that has happened to me, and at the moment I can live with that, but I might change ISP eventually.

    Hi m8

Hope you don't mind me asking but I am having the same probs with Orange BB connection out.

I noticed mine is always Sunday evening and some evenings but during the day is fine.

I am on 2gb limit too and I was also a freeserve/wanadoo customer.

When does ures tend to drop?

Usually in the evening. This evening at about 8-8:30 I had to make several attempts. Last night at about 11:30 bb went out completely and I was on dial up for an hour or so. I'd say it's in the evening when it happens, but since I have to work online on my work reports in the evening, it's a damn nuisance. Orange say they have problems of "outage" in some areas, but this has been going since they took over.

    Hi guys

Quick one here. I am on Orange Broadband and over past 6 weeks I keep getting no connection some evenings (especially Sunday's) and again last night whilst Champions Lge Semi was on.

Spoke to Customer Services today who put me thru to the Tech team in Middlesbrough (hurrah no Indian call centre for me today) and they did a line test and said there was an LLU fault on the line and this could be causing it.

She also said that should stop me getting any connection but I was talking to her via IP phone but she said they would look in to it and inform an engineer

Not too techy on this so can someone explain in English what's going on and if it's easy to fix?

  • I'm currently on the £17.99 package with Orange - which is a old package from a couple of years ago. I'm in a slow ADSL area - my line is marginal and I only get 512K max.

I have been trying to move down to the £14.99 package and get a reimbursement off them as well, but without success. They insist on another 12 month contract. They rang me up the other day and the lady I spoke to, once I told her that no way was I going on another contract, just tried to hang up the phone at that point. Useless. I even asked to speak to a manager but she just wanted to hang up. I suppose I'll have to send another complaint to them to add to the ones I already have with them.

I'd rather not have them anymore and am looking for another ISP. What is currently the best going on a short. say 3-6mnth contract? if there are any?

I'll be cancelling their direct-debit this weekend and also send them a letter requesting the MAC. I'm not comfortable on the phone so prefer to use snailmail...much less stress.

    Thanks.

Why a reimbursement, have you completed your minimum term on your existing contract?
Its standard for most ISPs to extend you to a 12month contract if you change any of the terms (after the initial minimum term's past)

OK, as I posted a while ago, Orange rang to offer me an upgrade so that my 2mb would go up to 8MB - I said my line was already 8MB, she said yes but I was only getting 2MB (well a test showed I get 2.7MB but anyway). Sounded good so I said yes, hoping that all my previous broadband connection drops would come to an end.

Well, my bb connection died the other night and I've been on diaup ever since. I rang them several times yesterday and today and the following has emerged:

    1) Some peeps at technical support say that there is a fault on the line and it's being sorted

    2) Other peeps at technical support say that because I upgraded, the old contract has been cancelled and a new one is about to kick off.

    3) When I said I had not been informed of this at all, they had no answer (not their department...).

    4) I rang the number given to me by the lady who offered the upgrade and it turns out it's NOT Orange but a marketing agency.

    5) I rang Orange saying that I just wanted to cancel broadband with them altogether. I was told there would be a cancellation fee of £239.88 to pay? Why? Because I entered into a 12 month contract. I said nobody told me this when they rang me. She said it's on the Orange homepage. Smooth: they ring you with these fantastic offers but don't tell you the catch so you accept - obviously the marketing agency employees are on commission...

So - be very careful of Orange - their homepage has details that you wouldn't dream of checking when you're already a customer. I can't wait for the time when I get out of their claws.

  • Howdy.

Looking at changing from Bt broadband to Orange as part of their mobile deals and am after any opinions on them as an ISP.

Having seen them voted the worst on Watchdog would be interested to hear your views as BT haven't been trouble free for me the last couple of years either.

Looking forward to hearing your pros and cons,

    Rob.
