Orange supposedly provide a Talk service (free calls huh) with their braodband package. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. THE LIVEBOX IS A NIGHTMARE, AND THE TALK SERVICE (BY THEIR OWN ADMISSION) WORKS FOR VERY FEW PEOPLE. 14 PHONE CALLS LATER AND THER SERVICE IS NO NEARER TO WORKING NOW THEN IT WAS ON THE DAY I GOT THE LIVEBOX.
ORANGE ARE MIS-SELLING THIS PACKAGE
AVOID PLEASE.

I used to be with freeserve which then became wanadoo and then Orange. Since Orange took over I have had nothing but trouble. Every few weeks I'm without bb for several hours and in the past three evenings I've had to go on dialup for a few hours. Ringing them is hopeless because it usually is a 40-50 minutes wait for someone to answer, and when they do they just tell me to try and connect "a bit later".
I have to work on reports in the evening, so it's not just forums I'm on. Besides, being on dialup means I cannot use the phone and this is also an important part of my work. So I need to know the following, please.
1) As there is no sign of Orange getting their act together, I need to get a reliable ISP, even if it costs me more than the current £17.99. Any recommendations?
2) If I cancel Orange broadband, will they cancel my dialup connection too? I would like to retain this as a backup? (Hoping of course it won't be needed as often)
Thanks.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Not with Orange for broadband just my mobile and thier customer service is getting worse on that. Have heard that their broadband was not great!!
Ive just left Demon after 2 years of no hassle or outages, only left as moving all our services to Virgin.
Good Luck

I've been with Orange (or Freeserve as they were) for over 4 years and have been having problems with my connection or lack of it for the past few months. Friday and Saturday evenings in particular are appaling and nigh on impossible to connect. To that effect I started looking around. I think I've decided to go BT option 3 taking the phone into account it should work out £1 a month dearer than Orange and Talk Talk with no calls to pay for evening and weekend and it will be great to get over 0.5MB (I'm paying for 2Mb and my line supports up to 8Mb - they admitted on the phone this week that I am not receiving the 2Mb service).
Requested my MAC code just over two weeks ago and the hassles I have had are endless. Can't wait to leave now! All the staff have been very friendly and helpful, but that doesn't help the fact that I still can't transfer and that I have spent hours on the phone to them!.
Someone on here kindly recommended http://www.dslzoneuk.net/ which has lots of comparisons for different providers. HTH0 -
I have been very happy with Pipex, not switched providers in about 5 years. I know I am paying a bit more than the cheapest in the market, but three outages of no more than a couple of hours each in all that time is pretty good in my book.
www.thinkbroadband.com is good for UK broadband reviews and advice.
By the way if you want to give your views on your experience of Orange an you would be welcome on www.sutori.co.uk
I am working with Sutori at present, just to be open about my interest. It is not a sales site.0 -

I don't intend to just transfer. I want to cancel broadband outright and then start with another ISP, even if I have to be without bb for a few days - at this point I'd rather do that. I'll inform Orange that I want to cancel my bb and then I'll cancel the direct debit to them.
My phone line is with BT and I make a lot of phone calls due to my work, so perhaps it would be worth me going with BT? I do want a 2MB broadband at least, though.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
if you cancel and then reorder with another isp you could be without broadband for a couple of weeks, if you migrate by getting a mac code you should only be without for a few hours0

hi there
i can sympathise with all orange bb posts. i had problems once i switched to b/band - v intermittent - and i can't believe how long it went on. i didn't know whether it was a fault on the line or a b/band problem - but either way they basically did nothing.
so i switched to bt as i knew they would have to resolve my problem whatever the reason. it did turn out to be a line fault, which bt have fixed (they had to go up the poles!) and my b/band is perfect.
if i remember rightly, they were able to set up my dial-up straight away so i could use it whilst waiting a week or so for the b/band to set up.
go for it!0 -

I know, but I heard that Orange are very inefficient in providing a code, and quite frankly I'm sick of them. I'd rather put up with being without bb for a while but get this trouble sorted out once and for all. At least if I known I don't have bb, I can plan the day so as not to depend on it when I have to do my reports on line. As it is I never know whether I'll be able to do all my work or not, of an evening. :rolleyes:Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
I was with Freeserve/Wanadoo till they changed their name to Orange and what a disaster they are i migrated to IDNet (getting a MAC off Orange was a big task had to go to the ISPA to get it off them) IDNET had brilliant CS and free im now with be* as they use adsl+2 with much faster speeds and have had no problems visit thinkbroadband and look at the ISP forums and DSL ZoneUK ISP Ratings good luck with your choice:j a tip avoid the big ones CS and TS are crap go for the ISP's that offer 1 or 3 month contracts so u aint locked in.
Good Luck*Steve*
