Mis-sold advantage gold account by natwest?

a few years ago i needed to open a current account ..... i wasnt working but claiming job seekers and needed an account to put money in..i went to natwest and the advisor told me i couldnt open a current account and should open a advantage gold she told me all the advantages i would get e.g discount holidays etc..i told her i didnt want that as i had no plans for any holidays ..and just needed a simple account..she again said it would be best to open advantage gold..i felt i had no choice but to open it..after i did money was coming out my account monthly ..i wrote to the bank telling them to change my account to a current and the bank did...Now looking back it makes me so angry that i was forced into getting this account when it was possible to open a current account..should i complain to natwest that i was mis sold this account.?

Whilst I agree that they may of pushed quite hard to get you to open a higher account, you did have a choice. You could of stayed firm and said no thank you lets just open the standard account or take your business else where. May be worth seeing if they will refund it though.

Banks do not have your interest at heart, you have to look after them. All they are interested in is making a profit and in terms of staff meeting sales targets. Simples

I suspect whoever sold you the account was looking at their targets for the month and thinking another sale. How many months of payments are you looking to get back and why did you not act sooner is what the bank would probably want to know.

This could go either way really. How much in fees are we talking about here?

If you complain to NatWest, the things they will look at (depending on who you complain to) are:
    1. The nature of the conversation you had with the customer adviser when she opened the account. How hard did she push you to open the packaged account? Did she mislead you in any way? Were you aware of the account fees? Is there a signed document to say you understood the Ts&Cs?
    2. Whether you ever used any of the account benefits, or signed up for them.
    3. Whether it was appropriate to have sold you the account. As you were on Jobseekers' I would say no.
    4. How long it took you to claim.

Personally-speaking, I hate sales and sales targets and I feel that the adviser should not have sold you the account due to your circumstances and your objections. NatWest may see it differently but they tend to be fair when they take misselling complaints.

This was a few years ago and you've only now decided to have a complaint, you back on job seekers by any chance and after some compo.

But there will be a sales target whether commission is earned or not. :D

Why leave it so long to claim? I know some sales staff can be pushy but no one forced you to sign for it.
