Mis-sold advantage gold account by natwest?

Is there any chance at all that the credit scoring results in customers close to a pass/fail on credit scoring actually being scored positively for a paid account like Advantage Gold but scored negatively for a "free" account? (i.e. that staff in the examples given are being honest when saying that customers can only have/upgrade the account if they take Advantage Gold)
No, you either 'pass' the credit score and can have a full bank account (adv gold, select silver or select) but not necessarily a overdraft or purple card. You should always be able to have a cheque book, if you have a full current account.
When we run an application it credit scores and THEN gives the options of which account to open, so the system doesn't know that you only want a select account until after it's made up its mind which accounts you can have.
Or you 'fail' the credit score and are offered a basic bank account with a RBS group only ATM card, no opportunity of having an overdraft and no cheque book. You can have a credit restricted version of select silver which allows you to use any ATM but still does not allow a cheque book or overdraft.
There is no 'halfway house' where it would offer gold or basic.0

I have been a Natwest customer for 20+ years, but have a bad credit rating score.
However, Natwest allowed me to have an overdraft on my then basic account of £1200, I had difficulty paying this back, so Natwest advised me to take out a loan to pay the overdraft.
I agreed to this, but was told I would have to upgrade to an advantage gold account for the loan to go ahead, which again I agreed to, as I felt this was the only option to pay of the overdraft.
The loan was paid off in Feb 2010, but I still have an advantage account, as the £13 monthly charges have become the norm that I have never thought to question it until I read the comments in this thread.
I have never used any of the benefits as none of them apply to me, and when I recently applied for an overdraft of £100 I was refused because of my credit rating.
So, did Natwest miss sell this card to me, and if so what is the best way to complain?
Help from anyone in the know would be much appreciated.0
