  • Wheelie bins on a paved area with a nice screen and some plant pots is one thing. But it sounds as if they are really taking the p*** now.

I'd tell them you are sorry, but what they are doing is an eyesore and is likely to attract rats (wood and cardboard are an irresistible attraction to them). Tell them you would prefer them to remove everything onto their own property.

I can't quite get my head around what is where and why, am I the only one who would love a little drawing of this?

Tell them you've changed your mind. You don't have to explain.

    Yes, I'd like a picture/drawing.

Hey! I wouldn't go in all guns blazing like some of the other posters have suggested. At least they had the decency to ask you to start with! Many don't.

I would knock on, in a calm way say you have had to claim on your home insurance regarding a water leak you had and they mentioned that if there was a fire or damage to the building, having a neighbours waste that close to your property would invalidate the insurance, so could they please remove the rubbish away from your property within the next couple of weeks, and also take down the wooden fence thing. Say the insurance company also said their was an issue with having other peoples wheelie bins that close also, so unfortunately now you won't be able to offer the option of putting the wheelies there. It may be worth taking a box of chocolates to say sorry for misleading them, but you can't risk your insurance being invalidated. A little token like a box of choccys can go a long way and keep relations ok.

If they don't do as asked, knock on exactly two weeks after you have asked and tell them you will remove the items for them an put the waste on their land if they want? This will show you mean business.

If they get really arsey, call the council about trespassing onto your territory. They will send a letter which should sort it out. Try and keep it nice to begin with though. If someone turned up at my door with an attitude I would be less inclined to do as they asked

I wouldn't worry too much DA1 as they'll want to remain on friendly terms with you to keep the wheelie bins there..... if they get arsey tell them to remove the wheelie bins aswell. ;)

Why was she bothered you have 3 sons? They seem to be the ones with the problems.....

She thought they'd be very noisy. Actually, they're quite well behaved boys. And next door now have 2 of their own :rotfl:

Thanks everyone. I think I"m just nervous about complaining.

Can you not just tell them you want the land back as you are planning to use it for something ? You could then plant flowers / a tree / grow some veg / etc in the space. Its your land and you can do whatever you like. They havent been very fair in creating a mess when you kindly allowed them to use the space in the first place. I wouldnt even complain or mention the mess - just politley say you want the space back as you have plans for it.

Don't make up stories, don't lie, just do as pimento says.

    It's your property, not theirs.

In my head I'm imagining a side access to both houses where the next door neighbours have a gate but the OP doesn't. If the neighbours were to put the wheelie bins on their own side it would obstruct access to their gate so they want to put them opposite. Am I right, OP?

Don't make up stories - just tell them you don't mind the wheelie bins, but can they move the rest of the rubbish. When our lovely new neightbours moved in, they took down the tatty fence between our two gardens. We didn't mind as it was behind our garage/workshop. The next time we looked they had built a wooden log store against our garage wall! That came down shortly after. They then left their shed there 'temporarily' and that now houses their tumble dryer. You are quite right - some people just can't help but take the pi**.

That's exactly it. Our gate is on the other side of our house.
