As been said without knowing the circumstances, it is unfair to judge, the road laws are outdated and the stopping distances of a modern porsche are somewhat different to a Moggy Minor.
The speed limit on motorways are too low anyway 100-110 MPH is about right for most motorway travel, Please ignore the self righteous brigade, I hope your half finds a decent brief and he doesnt have a guardian reading, bus loving, anti speed hating judge.
  • Hi,

Its totally unfair to judge .... we all have done things that seemed like a good idea at the time but are not really when the cold light of day hits us.

I would say its really essential to hire a very good solicitor and show remorse in court. If so you might depending on your age and exprience you should hopefully get away with 6 points and a fine.

    Good luck

Thought it was generally known that 100+ wasn't a good idea - I'm not a great fan of the revenue-generation aspect of speeding fines, particularly on motorways, but don't take the p1ss...

And as for the selfish git doing 70 in a 30 - should have a lifetime ban and a few years in the nick if ever caught behind the wheel again.

For a good solicitor in this sort of thing you could try Nick Freeman at Freeman & Co. 8 Oxford Court, Manchester, M2 3WQ, United Kingdom. 0161 236 7007 Expensive but supposedly worth it especially if the police have made any error. As used by all the showbiz people

If you hadnt mentioned the word Porsche you wouldnt have got so many jealous comments! If they want (slim to zero) to hang on to their licence you will need a solicitor and may be ,be prepared to ask the employer to write a letter confirming you would lose your job (if this is so).Is this the persons only time they have been caught?

I'd second the Nick Freeman recommendation. He and his firm has a reputation for getting people off (sometimes astounding driving offences) on technicalities. This one for example: http://www.radar-detectors.co.uk/news_in_the_clear_173mph_porshe_driver.asp (Harrison is the friend of one my work colleagues). Might be quite costly, though, so do your numbers and work out if it would be worth it.

Even on his own, if your OH can argue that his job depends on him being able to drive, he will probably get let off with lots of points and a big fine. And he'll have to behave himself for a few years.

I would say it might be worth getting a slower car, but even a 1.1 Fiat Punto will hit 107mph eventually :p (not on a public road, naturally ;))

It's very unlikely that you'd get pulled over for doing 80 on a motorway.

You must have b****y good eyesight !

I could see almost 200 miles ahead the other night, you must have very poor knowledge of how good human eyes are. Usually the atmospheric visibility is much more limiting than our eyes. If you can't see 2 miles ahead please go and get your eyes tested as you probably shouldn't be on the road.

I was doing 500mph as well (oh my god how did i go at that speed and not die!!!)

I know one shouldn't feed the troll, but what about curvature of the Earth's surface?

Depends on what you're driving, of course, but assuming your eyes were about 4 feet from the ground while sitting in your car, and atmospheric conditions were perfect, from the formula on that link, you would be able to see a 5-foot tall car about 5.7 miles away (using Google to convert from nautical miles to regular miles).

If you're talking in terms of pure light-gathering - look up at the sky on a clear night. You'll be able to see objects which are millions of miles away.
