I often manage to get an appt quick, but that's because I'm not bothered about which lady does my hair at my salon (they're all good)......... they all work part-time so if I want a specific person, it could be a week or so to fit me in.

I agree with just having a trim....... nothing too drastic, so there's less chance of it going massively wrong.

If all else fails just remember, hair grows and you can always wear a big summer hat for 6-8 weeks while it grows out

make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

    It'll be fine <pats your hand> ;)

Just be very clear and non faffy about what you want -and they'll probably be thrilled not to be doing another blue rinse or shampoo and set and be eager to please you so you come back again.

At least you are planning on going to a hairdresser!

    Now this seriously is true....

Last night at my dog training class I was complaining of my fringe being too long. One of the blokes there used to be a hairdresser and had a cut throat razor in the car. He offered to trim my fringe for me, and so I had it cut whilst stood in the middle of a field with a cut throat razor...

It may take a bit of time to get used to my new look!!

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Don't fret too much.
Firstly, unless I've asked for a friday or saturday I generally never have an issue getting an appointment with my good (or so I think) hairdresser, so it doens't prove anything.

Secondly, in all my life I've only had one atrocious haircut. I almost cried when I looked at my face in the mirror (I had a quiet baby on my lap so I wasn't paying close attention to what she was doing and no I wasn't moving around or anything). You know, when other women give you a look "I don't know if I should comment on the haircut as I can't pretend I haven't noticed but I can't pretend it's any good either"...
And even then, it grew back after a few weeks.

So, keep your eyes on the miror and you'll be fine.

I managed to get a same day appointment with the owner and head stylist of my salon a few weeks ago.

Its a good place, won awards, used to be packed all the time with a long wait etc. but the recession has hit hairdressers pretty hard because they're a luxury people cut back on when times are hard. They've even had to make staff redundant.

I wouldn't read too much into it, it'll probably be fine.

    Don't worry. It's only hair - it'll grow back.

What I do when using a hairdresser for the first time is state very clearly when making the appointment 'my hair is a mess at the moment so I absolutely need someone who knows what they are doing' when the receptionist replies with 'ok, I have an appointment with so and so at 2pm' I reply with 'brilliant and she is a senior stylist yes' If the answer is no, they are usually able to find another appointment for me quickly.
The thing is don't be afraid to make it clear that you are looking for someone who knows their way around a pair of scissors!
