I know you can't help me but I'm going to share anyway...(hairdresser related)

I need a haircut. (Mostly to repair the bl00dy awful mess I made of cutting it myself but that's another story. :o)

Anyway, not having had a haircut since we moved here, I have no idea who is good and who to avoid.

I have to go into the next town, it's a small place and there are only a few hairdressers to choose from.

I picked one and called for an appointment. I got one for this afternoon.

I'm now worried they are rubbish.

You had to wait weeks for an appointment at my old hairdressers.

Only way to find out if all the other hairdressers in this area have quick appointments or not would be to phone them all but I don't want the embarrassment of saying 'actually thanks but no thanks I've changed my mind when they offer me an appointment. :rotfl:

Now's a good time to tell me 'there, there, there, it will be fine'. :D

Let's face it, I don't have any way of finding one by recommendation so it'll have to be a case of trial and error.

I only posted cos I'm scared. :rotfl:

And yes, I'm one of these sad sacks whose hair really does affect the way they feel. Shoot me! :p

Go up to random women in the street whose haircuts you admire and ask them where they get their hair cut.

word of mouth usually works well to find a good hairdresser, builder and so on.

Lol, and wait for the next newspaper headline to mention something about newcomer to the area stalking random females. :rotfl:

Tis too late, I am not going out on a street survey now. :D

I think you're getting too hung up on this idea that good hairdressers only have appointments waaay in the future. This might well be the case with wherever you used to go, but I think it's a bit damning to suggest that if someone can fit you in in the next few days they're automatically rubbish.

Just walk past wherever you've booked. If it looks fairly busy, it's obviously a popular place. Doesn't matter how long you have to wait. If anyone said to me 'I can't fit you in for two weeks' I'd think 'You're up your own arse, I'm going elsewhere'. I can't abide being turned away from anywhere. I get apoplectic if restaurants don't have table :D

Thing is, we live in a place that is pretty much a retirement community. :D

I don't know anyone here to ask anyway.

No but I quite fancy having purple tips. :D

Daughter would freak, she thinks I'm too old to be funky.

To be fair, if I'm using words like funky....maybe I am. :rotfl:

    I've been Money Tipped!
I understand your anxiety because I really hate getting my hair cut following a disastrous experience years ago. After that I went to a really good stylist who did aromatherapy and massage to relax me before getting the scissors out and I could cope with that. I recently moved to a new area and left it a really long time before booking to have it cut (I ended up getting a mobile hairdresser to come to my house and do it and she did a good job). Thankfully my hair is long and in really good condition so I can get away with quite long gaps between cuts. I'm going to need to have it done again in the next couple of weeks because I have a wedding to go to....eek!

I'm sure the place you have booked with are good, they're probably not booked for weeks in advance because it's a smaller community so there's less demand. Or the appointment that was available quickly could be a lucky cancellation! Try to relax and think positive thoughts!

I'd say it depends on the current length and style of hair but just go for a light trim that they can't really balls up and see if you are comfortable with the place. It might not be as economical but it seems important to you that it's right.
