Is that a serious question? The Royal Mail have last around 1BN over the last four years - how much taxpayers money has been wasted in four years?stevew8975 wrote: »the other alternative of course is for RM to increase their prices....
Following on from that, an equally well thought out solution.....
RM is a loss making business - simply close it down and flog the assets.0

Sort of going off the topic now but I'm guessing one of RM's biggest increases is fuel, and like everything else we buy, this cost hits hard but we are talking about companies and government making billions in revenue and with those kinds of figures you are naive if you believe actions will be taken in the interest of the majority.
You are correct ludovico - my middle name is naive..and very happy with it too.
This thread started going pear shaped when I mentioned electric vehicles where appropriate. As you are aware most of the cost of fuel is tax and VAT - taxpayers money - perhaps red diesel is the solution?0

Are you getting your spurious numbers out of thin air? Or the Daily Mirror?!
RM made £67m profit last year - most of which came from the parcels and retail side. The universal service did indeed lose money, £41m, but that is the part of the business that requires stamps. You know, those things that you started this thread about?
You seem to have forgotten what your original argument was?
Do keep up at the back please...Outragious increases in areas where there is no potential for competition at the moment. Bearing in mind the steadily increasing cost of postage over the years how can nearly 40% on a second class stamp be justified.
Post offices closing down, postmen under increasing pressure - where is the money going?<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0

I haven't lost sight of the posters who like yourself are unlikely to add value to this thread.
Knocking other peoples ideas is easy - coming up with fresh material requires someone with a little more imagination.
You may want to put a little more effort in.0

Yesterday I posted an item 1st class from a minor post office in outer London. Within 24 hours, I received feedback. It has arrived in Kyle of Lochalsh, on the north-west coast of Scotland.
After the price increases, it cost £1.20 to use this service. I wonder what changes privatisation might bring?
 Effficiency?
 Effectiveness?
Economy? :rotfl:"The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.

Sorry the naive comment wasn't aimed directly at you, just when it comes to vast sums of money actions aren't made in the interests of you and I.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0

you havent come up with any ideas.
yours is akin to me saying I should get a new Ferrari,so i will just buy one.
State subsidy of RM is gone. It will be privitised.
 So what now?0
