Surely that is just your opinion. Loads of cars have the word 'Sport' plastered all over them but it hardly makes them sports cars.

    I never said it did.

Obviously a true sports car is most likely going to be a coupe and not necessarily have 4 seats. But in my opinion (having worked in a Alfa/Fiat dealership and driven most of them), any of the recent Alfa range (1.6 or 2.0ltr) ticks the boxes of the OP's requirements.

Sorry, but you've a very blinkered viewpoint RE: alfas.

As for yours not being 'particularly quick', then either they had a problem or you are too use to driving much higher spec/powerful cars which would put Alfa's out of the OP's category anyway (unless she plums for one with the V6 lump in it). Compared to the equivalent Ford/VX/Whatever, I would say that Alfa performance is certainly up there if not better. You being a dealer will know this.

They're not particularly quick. From memory, the 2.0 struggles to 60 in something like 8.3 seconds. Even the 'mightly' 2.5 v6 (which i loved dearly at the time) cant crack 7 seconds in a 0-60 sprint. Given they only do 22mpg, other comparable cars with that level of consumption are hitting 0-60 in well under 6 seconds (Subaru STI)

However you have hit the nail on the head with your last statement - yes a 2.0 Alfa 156 has comparable performance to a 2.0 Mondeo or 2.0 Vectra, thus summing up entirely what i said - not terribly quick and not terribly sporting?

Terribly colour combo - looks like rhubarb and custard.

    Small alloys.

Diesel engine that struggles with the heavy body.

Generally they're a nice enough looking car, but average dynamically at best.

Overall you'd have to have fairly low standards to describe that as a 'sports car'

Seat Leon Cupra or Cupra R.

Lots of fun, nice looking and you can make them quicker if you get bored. :p

Your opinion, which isn't shared by everybody. So shall we leave it at that and let the OP decide as it's her money, not ours.

S B may be a bit of a c*nt, but he does make me larrrf.

Those comparing the 2.0 alfa to the vectras, mondeos etc, sporty is more than just the 0-60 time, its also the stance on the road, how it handles around bends, if its comfortable near the limit. And the vectra handles like a boat unless you plump for the VXR. In which case it handles like a boat and tries to ruin your spine.

And a diesel 159 is a nimble cross country sprinter is it?

Seriously. Think about what you're saying here - do you REALLY think anyones idea of a sports car is a burgundy diesel 159 on undersized wheels and with beige leather? Really? Do you know that little about cars that to you thats the best of the best?
