well said wolfman.
if you didnt check compatibility first with a brand new version of windows thats only just a month old, then its your fault for not doing your research.
glad its not from my shop.:: No Unauthorised Links in Signatures please - FM ::0 -
Would you like me to provide a history of my googling or my telephone bill?I have spent hours trying to sort this out.I expected the system to work straight out of the box.It has failed in this expectation. The manufacturer has accepted they are wrong in not informing me of the compatibility issues.Trading standards are aware of this problem as are the Consumer Association. My original post was a warning to other consumers that Vista is not perfect and may cause a non techie person problems. Not everybody has time to surf multiple pages and then try unconventional installations.
If the manufacture and the isp have not yet trained their staff how can a member of the public be expected to know of the problems of Vista?0 -
it;s realy simple vista is the baby windows (the new kid on the block)and there is nowt out there guaranted to work with it ,even if it's vista ready or compatible ,any one that gets it will have problems with it ,i now ive been a week and a 1/2 getting vista compatible/vista ready hardwere to work with it put i am techie ,this is what i like doing sorting thing out with os (to me it's fun)in now it should get a life .
you cannot expect things that run on xp to run or work on vista it totally different because it's only a few week old and the manufactures have not had chance to fix the problems yet (i n ow the beta's have been out for years put it not a beta any more it the real deal )again different even through it mite look and work the same.
after all that it works well when it works ( i like it )there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -
hours googling!!! i typed in 'remove vista' and came up with the answer straight away.
The best way you could have gone with this tread was to say what type of pc you have. and then list the make and model of all the things that dont work.
also i types in speedtouch 330 vista drivers and theres a whole bunch of posts with links to drivers that might work..did you try them...or did you read the speedtouch website saying the offical driver will be around this month.
The worst part is, is that you came on this site with a problem. Didnt tell us the exact problem but just ranted. Then had a go at others for not solving your problem.
People here dont get paid for this and help others out of the goodness of their heart. So try and be polite to themSmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -

The SYSTEM did work out of the box, it just wasnt compatible with your existing ISP and peripherals because those manufacturers havent brought out the correct drivers yet.
there was nothing the matter with the system and its up to YOU to check before you buy.
if you didnt, its YOUR fault.
You assumed and expected and didnt do any research or homework.
its not Dell or Microsoft's responsibility to do your homework for you.
This has nothing to do with trading standards or any consumer body, its not even a problem for the dreaded WATCHDOG show!!
You bought a new laptop without checking if your ISP and peripherals would work with a BRAND NEW month old operating system.
When you realise they don't you blame everyone but yourself.
The computer does work and is compatible with a number or items, jsut maybe not yours but thats not your fault, microsoft or dells, however its your responsibility to check it before buying it.
Accepted you say you are a non-techie, but its common sense do some homework before shelling out.
I sympathise that you wanted a laptop that would work out of the box with your existing ISP etc & you didnt get one but the responsibility lies with you and no one else.
Am surprised Dell have taken the machine back since its IS fit to do the job its intended for.:: No Unauthorised Links in Signatures please - FM ::0 -

If you are dissapointed with the responses then you should have asked for help instead of wanting a campaign agains Microsoft,Tiscali,Dell.cornwallis wrote:I thought this site was about defending consumer rights not a meeting place for microsoft acolytes...
This board is about helping people out AND defending rights. No one here will fight battles for you but will give solid and sound advice based on thier own experiences and knowledge. You also have to be aware that the retailer has rights as well and trying to get people to boycott a product just because you are unhappy with a trivial matter is not the right way to go. If you had taken the time to join this board before any purchase you could have got advice on the product as well as the warnings that always pop up with any VISTA thread.cornwallis wrote:I have repeatedly asked how to remove Vista yet nobody here seems qualified to be able to answer my question..
I think once you asked... But that aside.. Removing VISTA and installing XP could have voided your warranty so we were protecting your consumer rights. If you had went ahead and installed XP and something happened DELL could have told you to take a hike and then you would be on here moaning at the people who told you how to do it but didnt warn you.
As for the legal issue... You will have no joy as DELL supplied a working computer that was fit for its purpose. The modem is also fit for its purpose as is the ISP. Its just unfortunate that the responsability for compatability falls on you. There is no way on earth Microsoft could make an OS thats 100% compatible with everything, And as for the modem the manufacturer of that could have been having problems developing drivers so again not thier fault.
What happened to the router you bought??? Did you try that?? what happened??0
