I have informed my local trading standards office about it and the letters of complaint will be in the post this afternoon.

I'm not sure Microsoft could be held responsible for third party software problems. What exactly are the holes you mention in Vista?

Just buy a router, much safer than a modem

Trading standards vs Microsoft.. I think I know who will win.., don't waste your time.

Your beef is with HP/Thomson if anyone, and they have no requirement to provide drivers, the equipment you have works with the O/S's that it says on the box.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

I spent hours yesterday either on the telephone or on the internet using my old computer looking for a solution. The Vista system should not have been released until such issues had been rectified. It is like buying a car that you cannot drive on the road.

This comment says it best though from the Microsoft forum I've just linked to "
You could try the XP 64bit drivers ... Vista is aimed at 64bit PCs

In my opinion, & I stress it is my opinion, any ISP who supply a USB modem need putting against a wall and shooting."

Its not a vista problem though it's a problem with your ISP and your modem. Vista works fine. It's like the people who got that bad fuel in their car from the supermarket petrol stations blaming the people who they bought their car off for not having a fix for bad fuel.

Why should Microsoft halt the release of their product because other companies can't be bothered with their own products? So far I've not seen a single mention of a problem with specifically with Vista, only other companies' hardware and software.

I have just purchase a router but I am going to try and force Dell into installing XP on the machine until Vista is usable. The os is stll not that stable and I find that doing things such as adding removing programmes is not as easy.I told the salesman in PC world about my troubles when I bought a router this morning and his comment was that he would not touch vista.

It's like buying a new Ford Focus, and trying to fit a 1990 Ford Escort exhaust to it.

So you didn't consider checking it was compatible with your hardware before you bought it? What are holes is Vista full of? I have been running Vista for a few weeks without any problems, all of my hardware bar my scanner had drivers built into Vista and I downloaded those form the Canon website. However I did check before hand that everything would work, the information is not hard to find.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

If MS only released OSs when they were compatible with all the hardware that was still around we'd still all be using DOS if anything at all.
